ഡാർഡിക് ഗ്രൂപ്പിന്റെ ഇന്തോ-ആര്യൻ ഭാഷയാണ് ചിത്രാലി എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഖോവാർ ഭാഷ.[4]"ഖോ" എന്നാൽ ചിത്രാലിലെ ആളുകൾ, "വാർ" എന്നാൽ ഭാഷ എന്നും അർത്ഥമാക്കുന്നു. ഗിൽജിത്-ബാൾട്ടിസ്ഥാനിലെ (ഗുപിസ്, ഫാൻഡർ വാലി, ഇഷ്കോമാൻ, യാസെൻ, പുനിയാലിലും അപ്പർ സ്വാത്തിന്റെ ചില ഭാഗങ്ങളിലും (മാറ്റെൽട്ടൻ വില്ലേജ്), ഗൈസർ ജില്ലയിലെ ചിത്രാലിലെ ഖോ ജനതയുമാണ് ഈ ഭാഷ സംസാരിക്കുന്നത്. പാകിസ്താൻ, ജമ്മു കശ്മീർ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലും ഈ ഭാഷ സംസാരിക്കുന്നു.[1]
