1992 ഫെബ്രുവരി 26 ന് ഖോജാലി പട്ടണത്തിൽ അസർബെയ്ജാനി വംശജരായ 161 പൗരന്മാരെ അർമേനിയൻ സായുധ സേനയും 366-ാമത് സിഐഎസ് റെജിമെന്റും കൂട്ടക്കൊല ചെയ്തതാണ് ഖോജാലി ദുരന്തം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഖോജാലി കൂട്ടക്കൊല.[3][6][7][5][8]106 സ്ത്രീകളും 63 കുട്ടികളും ഉൾപ്പെടെ 613 സിവിലിയന്മാർ മരിച്ചതായി അസർബൈജാനി അധികൃതർ അവകാശപ്പെട്ടു.[4]നാഗോർനോ-കരബാക്ക് പോരാട്ടത്തിനിടയിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ കൂട്ടക്കൊലയായി ഈ സംഭവം മാറി.[2]

പാശ്ചാത്യ സർക്കാരുകളും മാധ്യമങ്ങളും സംഭവത്തെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ "ഖോജാലി കൂട്ടക്കൊല" എന്നുപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.[9] അസർബൈജാനി സ്രോതസ്സുകൾ [10][11] കൂട്ടക്കൊലയെ ഒരു വംശഹത്യ (അസർബൈജാനി: Xocalı soyqırımı) അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഒരു ദുരന്തം (Xocalı faciəsi) എന്നാണ് വിളിക്കുന്നത്.[12]

പശ്ചാത്തലം[തിരുത്തുക]

നാഗൊർനോ-കരബാക്ക് പോരാട്ടത്തിൽ, അർമേനിയക്കാരും അസർബൈജാനികളും വംശഹത്യയുടെയും വംശീയ ഉന്മൂലനത്തിന്റെയും ഇരകളായി. ഇത് നിരവധി ആളപായത്തിനും വലിയൊരു കൂട്ടം ആളുകളെ നാടുകടത്തുന്നതിനും കാരണമായി.[3]1992 ആയപ്പോഴേക്കും സംഘർഷം ഒരു സമ്പൂർണ്ണ യുദ്ധമായി വളർന്നു. 1992 ഫെബ്രുവരിയിൽ കരാബാക്കിന്റെ തലസ്ഥാനമായ ഖാൻകെണ്ടി അസർബൈജാനി സേനയുടെ ഉപരോധത്തിൻ കീഴിലായിരുന്നു.[13]

ഖൊജാലി പട്ടണം ഷുഷയിൽ നിന്നും ഖാൻകേണ്ടിയിൽ നിന്നും അഗ്ദാമിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിയിലായിരുന്നു. പ്രദേശത്ത് ഏക വിമാനത്താവളം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അർമേനിയയിലെ കരയുമായി ബന്ധമില്ലാത്തതും അസർബൈജാൻ പൂർണ്ണമായും ഉപരോധിച്ചതുമായ കരബാക്കിലെ ജനങ്ങളുടെ നിലനിൽപ്പിന് വിമാനത്താവളം വളരെ പ്രാധാന്യമർഹിക്കുന്നു. ഹ്യൂമൻ റൈറ്റ്സ് വാച്ചിൽ നിന്നുള്ള റിപ്പോർട്ടുകൾ പ്രകാരം സ്റ്റെബാനകേർട്ട് നഗരത്തെ ഷെല്ലാക്രമണം നടത്തുന്ന അസർബൈജാനി സേനയുടെ താവളമായി ഖോജലിയെ ഉപയോഗിച്ചു. വിവേചനരഹിതമായ ഷെല്ലാക്രമണവും ഒളിഞ്ഞ ഇടത്തിൽനിന്നും വെടിവയ്ക്കുന്നതും നൂറുകണക്കിന് സിവിലിയന്മാരെ കൊല്ലുകയോ വൈകല്യപ്പെടുത്തുകയോ ചെയ്തു. വീടുകളും ആശുപത്രികളും നിയമാനുസൃതമായ സൈനിക ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങളല്ലാത്ത മറ്റ് വസ്തുക്കളും നശിപ്പിച്ചു. പൊതുവേ സാധാരണ ജനങ്ങളെ ഇത് ഭയപ്പെടുത്തി.[1][14][15]1991–1992 ശൈത്യകാലത്ത് ഖോജാലിയെ അർമേനിയൻ സേന മിക്കവാറും എല്ലാ ദിവസവും ഷെല്ലാക്രമണം നടത്തി. ആളുകൾ ബേസ്മെന്റുകളിൽ രാത്രി ചെലവഴിക്കുന്നത് പതിവാക്കി.[16]1992-ലെ ശൈത്യകാലത്ത് അർമേനിയൻ സൈന്യം ആക്രമണത്തിനിറങ്ങി. ഇത് അസർബൈജാനിലെ മുഴുവൻ ജനങ്ങളെയും പലായനം ചെയ്യാൻ നിർബന്ധിതരാക്കി. 1988-ൽ പട്ടണത്തിൽ 2,135 നിവാസികളുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഒന്നാം നാഗൊർനോ-കറാബക്ക് യുദ്ധവും അർമേനിയയും അസർബൈജാനും തമ്മിലുള്ള ജനസംഖ്യാ കൈമാറ്റവും മെസ്കെതിയൻ തുർക്ക് അഭയാർഥികൾ മധ്യേഷ്യയിൽ നിന്ന് പുറത്തുപോയി പിന്നീട് ഖോജാലിയിൽ സ്ഥിരതാമസമാക്കി.[17][18]1980 കളുടെ അവസാനത്തിലും 1990 കളുടെ തുടക്കത്തിലും അസർബൈജാൻ സർക്കാർ നടത്തിയ ഒരു വലിയ പുനരധിവാസ പദ്ധതിയുടെ കേന്ദ്രമായിരുന്നു ഖോജലിയെന്ന് തോമസ് ഡി വാൾ പറയുന്നു. ഇത് ആദ്യത്തെ നാഗൊർനോ-കറാബക്ക്_യുദ്ധവുമായി പൊരുത്തപ്പെടുകയും 1991 ആയപ്പോഴേക്കും ജനസംഖ്യ 6200 ആയി വർദ്ധിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. 1991 ഒക്ടോബറിൽ നാഗോർനോ കറാബക്ക് സൈന്യം ഖോജാലിയെയും അഗ്ദാമിനെയും ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന റോഡ് മുറിച്ചുമാറ്റി. അതിനാൽ നഗരത്തിലെത്താനുള്ള ഏക വഴി ഹെലികോപ്റ്റർ ആയിരുന്നു. 160 ഓളം ആയുധധാരികളായ അലിഫ് ഹാജിയേവിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ പ്രാദേശിക OMON സേനയാണ് ഖോജലിയെ പ്രതിരോധിച്ചത്.[3]ആക്രമണത്തിന് മുമ്പ് ഖോജാലിയിൽ ദിവസവും ഷെല്ലാക്രമണം നടത്തുകയും വൈദ്യുതി, ഗ്യാസ്, വെള്ളം എന്നിവ തടഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് പൂർണ്ണമായും ഉപരോധിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.[20][21]

ഒരു അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ചരിത്ര-പൗരാവകാശ സാമൂഹിക സംഘടനയായ മെമ്മോറിയൽ പ്രകാരം, 1991 ശരത്കാലം മുതൽ ഖോജാലിയെ അർമേനിയൻ സായുധ സേന ഉപരോധത്തിലാക്കി. സോവിയറ്റ് യൂണിയൻ അവരുടെ ആഭ്യന്തര സൈനികരെ കരാബാക്കിൽ നിന്ന് പിൻവലിച്ചതോടെ ഉപരോധം സമ്പൂർണ്ണമായി. ഉപരോധിക്കപ്പെട്ട പട്ടണത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ചില നിവാസികൾ വിട്ടുപോയെങ്കിലും ഖോജാലിയുടെ ഭരണ മേധാവി, എൽമാൻ മമ്മദോ നിർബന്ധപൂർവ്വം ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടും സാധാരണക്കാരെ പൂർണ്ണമായും ഒഴിപ്പിച്ചില്ല.[22]
