ദക്ഷിണാഫ്രിക്കയ്ക്കു വേണ്ടി ഒളിമ്പിക്സ് ബാഡ്മിന്റണിൽ ജയം നേടുന്ന ആദ്യതാരമാണ് ജേക്കബ് മാളിയേക്കൽ (ജനനം:1 ജനുവരി 1991. ദക്ഷിണാഫ്രിക്കൻ ദേശീയ ചാമ്പ്യൻഷിപ്പും ഓൾ ആഫ്രിക്കൻ ചാമ്പ്യൻഷിപ്പും നേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.[1][2][3]
ദക്ഷിണാഫ്രിക്കയിലെ സ്കൂൾ പഠനം കഴിഞ്ഞ് മലേഷ്യയിൽ ഓസ്ട്രേലിയൻ സർവകലാശാലയായ മൊനാഷിൽ ബിരുദ പഠനത്തിന് ചേർന്നു. അവിടെ ന്യൂ വിഷൻ ബാഡ്മിന്റൺ അക്കാദമിയിൽ പരിശീലനവും തുടങ്ങി. 2011 മുതൽ തുടർച്ചയായി അഞ്ചു വർഷം ഓൾ ആഫ്രിക്ക ചാമ്പ്യനായിരുന്നു. നാലു തവണ സുദിർമാൻ കപ്പിലും രണ്ടു തവണ തോമസ് കപ്പിലും ദക്ഷിണാഫ്രിക്കയ്ക്കു വേണ്ടി റാക്കറ്റേന്തി. 2011-ൽ ലണ്ടനിലും 2014-ൽ ഡെൻമാർക്കിലും നടന്ന ലോക ബാഡ്മിന്റൺ ചാമ്പ്യൻഷിപ്പിലും ദക്ഷിണാഫ്രിക്കക്കു വേണ്ടി മത്സരിച്ചു. തുടർന്നാണ് ഒളിമ്പിക്സിലേക്കും യോഗ്യത നേടിയത്.
1976-ൽ പാലായിൽ നിന്നും ദക്ഷിണാഫ്രിക്കയിലേക്കു നാടുമാറിയ ജേക്കബിന്റെ മകനായി 1991 ജനുവരി 1-ന് ദക്ഷിണാഫ്രിക്കയിൽ ജനിച്ചു.
