വിഖ്യാതനായ മുസ്ലീം പണ്ഡിതനും ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനും സസ്യശാസ്ത്ര വിദഗ്ദ്ധനും ഭിഷഗ്വരനും ഔഷധവിദഗ്ദ്ധനുമായിരുന്നു ഇബ്നുൽ ബൈത്താർ (1197–1248). സ്പെയിൻകാരനായ ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റേതാണ് ഏറ്റവും പ്രസിദ്ധമായ സസ്യശാസ്ത്രഗ്രന്ഥം. ഒരു വൈദ്യഗ്രന്ഥത്തിനു പുറമേ 1,400 ഒറ്റമൂലികളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഒരു വിജ്ഞാനകോശവും ഇദ്ദേഹം എഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇതിൽ പറയുന്ന 200-ൽപ്പരം സസ്യങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള വിവരങ്ങൾ അതിനുമുൻപ് അജ്ഞാതമായിരുന്നു.[1]
