ബൊറാജിനേസീ സസ്യകുടുംബത്തിലെ ഒരു ഇടത്തരം വൃക്ഷമാണ് ഒക്ടോപസ് ബുഷ്. (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Heliotropium foertherianum). ഏഷ്യാപസിഫിക് മേഖലകളിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ആറു മീറ്റർ വരെ ഉയരം വയ്ക്കുന്ന ഈ മരം ഏഷ്യയിലെ ഉഷ്ണമേഖലയിലെ തദ്ദേശവാസിയാണ്.[2]
പേരു വന്നവഴി[തിരുത്തുക]
ആദ്യം Tournefortia argentea എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന ഈ മരം Argusia argentea[3] എന്ന പേരിലേക്ക് മാറ്റപ്പെട്ടുവെങ്കിലും 2003 -ലാണ് ഇപ്പോഴുള്ള ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമത്തിൽ ഉറപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടത്.[4][5]
ഉപയോഗങ്ങൾ[തിരുത്തുക]
ക്ഷാമകാലത്ത് മാലദ്വീപിലെ ആൾക്കാർ ഇതിന്റെ ഇലകൾ ഭക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നതായി ചരിത്രം പറയുന്നു.[6]
തടി[തിരുത്തുക]
കരകൗശലവസ്തുക്കൾ, കാർഷികോപകരണങ്ങൾ, നീന്തൽക്കണ്ണടയുടെ ഫ്രൈം എന്നിവ ഉണ്ടാക്കാൻ പലയിടത്തും ഇവ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ചിലയിടത്ത് വിറകായി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ ഇതിനു നാശവും സംഭവിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.[7]
ഔഷധഗുണം[തിരുത്തുക]
പസിഫിക് ദ്വീപുകളിൽ മൽസ്യവിഷത്തിനെതിരെ നാടോടിമരുന്നായി നീരാളിമരം ഉപയോഗിക്കാറുണ്ട്. ഗവേഷകർ ഇതിന്റെ ഇലകളിൽ നിന്നും വൈറസിനും ബാക്ടീയയ്ക്കും എതിരെ ഗുണങ്ങൾ കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.[8]
