ഗ്രീസിലെ സിസിലിയിലെ ലിയന്റിനി സ്വദേശിയും ഹേത്വഭാസവാദിയും ആലങ്കാരികനും സോക്രട്ടീസിനു മുൻപുള്ള തത്ത്വചിന്തകനുമാണ്‌ ഗോർഗിയസ്(/ˈɡɔːrdʒiəs/; ഗ്രീക്ക്: Γοργίας, [ɡorɡíaːs]; c. 485 – c. 380 BC),[1] . പ്രോട്ടഗോരസ്സിനോടൊപ്പം ആദ്യതലമുറ സോഫിസ്റ്റാണ്‌ അദ്ദേഹം.empedOclesinte മകനാണെന്ന് കില ദൈവവിശ്വാസികൾ പറയുന്നു.എന്നാലും കുറച്ച് വയസ്സ് മാത്രം പ്രായം എമ്പെദോക്ളീസിനേക്കാൾ കുറവാണ്‌.മറ്റ് sophists നെ പോലെ അലഞ്ഞ് തിരിഞ്ഞ് നടക്കുകയുമദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കഴിവുകൾ വിവിധ പലസ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും പ്രതേകിച്ച് പാൻ ഹെല്ലാനിക് കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിൽ എക്സിബിഷൻ നടത്തുകയും എക്സിബിഷനും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ നിർദ്ദേശങ്ങൾക്ക് പണം ഈടാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന പ്രതേകതയെന്തെന്നാൽ പ്രേക്ഷകരിൽ നിന്നും പലവിധത്തിലുള്ള ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ സ്വീകരിക്കുകയും അതിന്‌ അനിയോജ്യമായ ഉത്തരങ്ങൾ നൽകുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു[2] .നിഷേധമതവിശ്വാസിയായ ഗോർഗിയസ് എന്ന് ചിലപ്പോഴൊക്കെ വിളിച്ചിരുന്നു.എന്നിരുന്നാലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഈ വിശേഷണം ഒരു തർക്ക വിഷയമാണ്‌[3][4][5][6]. അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ വാസസ്ഥലം മാറ്റിയതിനാൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രസംഗം സിസിലിയിൽ നിന്ന് അറ്റിക്കയിലേക്ക് മാറ്റി.ഇതിലൂടെ അറ്റിക്കയുടെ നാട്ടുഭാഷക്ക് സാഹിത്യരംഗത്ത് മാറ്റമുണ്ടായി.
