ലഘുവായ ഒരു പോളിയോൾ (കൂടുതൽ ഹൈഡ്രോക്സിൽ ഗ്രൂപ്പുകൾ ചേർന്ന) ഒരു സംയുക്തമാണ് ഗ്ലിസറിൻ അഥവാ ഗ്ലിസറോൾ (Glycerol) (/ˈɡlɪsərɒl/;^[4] glycerine അല്ലെങ്കിൽ glycerin എന്നും എഴുതും, അക്ഷരവ്യത്യാസം നോക്കുക). ഗ്ലിസറിൻ ഒരു കളറില്ലാത്ത, മണമില്ലാത്ത, മധുരരസമുള്ള, വിഷമില്ലാത്ത സാന്ദ്രതയുള്ള ഒരു ദ്രാവകമാണ്. ലിപിഡുകളുടെ നട്ടെല്ലായ ഗ്ലിസറോളുകൾ ട്രൈഗ്ലിസറൈഡുകൾ എന്നാണ് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഭക്ഷ്യവ്യവസായത്തിലും ഔഷധമേഖലയിലും വ്യാപകമായി ഗ്ലിസറിൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കാറുണ്ട്. ഗ്ലിസറിനിലുള്ള മൂന്ന് ഹൈഡ്രോക്സിൽ ഗ്രൂപ്പുകളാണ് അവ ജലത്തിൽ ലയിക്കുന്നതിനു കാരണമായിട്ടുള്ളത്. ഇത് ഗ്ലിസറിന് ഹൈഗ്രോസ്കോപിക് സ്വഭാവസവിശേഷത നൽകുന്നു. ഈ സവിശേഷതയുടെ കാരണത്താലാണ് മിക്ക ഫാർമസ്യൂട്ടിക്കൽ ഫോർമുലേഷനുകളിലും ഘടകപദാർത്ഥമായി ഗ്ലിസറിൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്.^[5]
