എറിക്കേസീ കുടുംബത്തിലെ സപുഷ്പികളുടെ ഒരു സ്പീഷീസാണ് എറിക കാർണിയ (winter heath,[1] winter-flowering heather, spring heath, alpine heath; syn. E. herbacea, E. mediterranea) മധ്യകിഴക്കൻ തെക്കൻ യൂറോപ്യൻ മലനിരകളിലെ തദ്ദേശവാസിയായ ഈ സസ്യം സ്തൂപികാഗ്രിത വനപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലോ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ പാറസ്ഥലത്തെ ചരിവുകളിലോ വളരുന്നു. ഈ സസ്യത്തിൻറെ നിർദ്ദിഷ്ട ലത്തീൻ എപ്പിതെറ്റ് കാർണിയ എന്നാൽ "flesh pink" എന്നാണ് അർത്ഥമാക്കുന്നത്.[2]
കൃഷിയും ഉപയോഗവും[തിരുത്തുക]
ശീതകാലത്തു പൂവിടുന്ന എറിക കാർണിയ സാധാരണയായി ഒരു അലങ്കാര സസ്യമായി വളർത്തുന്നു. പുഷ്പങ്ങളുടെയും ഇലകളുടെയും വ്യതിയാനങ്ങൾ അനുസരിച്ച് നൂറ് കൾട്ടിവറുകളിധികം തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. വ്യത്യസ്തത പുലർത്തുന്ന എറികയിലെ മിക്ക സ്പീഷീസുകളും കാൽസിഫ്യൂജ് ആണെങ്കിലും ഇത് ഭാഗികമായ ആൽക്കലി മണ്ണിലും അമ്ല മണ്ണിലും വളരുന്നു.
