ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഭൗതികശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞയും ലണ്ടൻ ഇംപീരിയൽ കോളേജിലെ [3] റോയൽ സൊസൈറ്റി ഡൊറോത്തി ഹോഡ്ജ്കിൻ റിസർച്ച് ഫെലോയുമാണ് എമ്മ ഒലിവിയ ചാപ്മാൻ (ജനനം 1988)(née വുഡ്ഫീൽഡ്)[1] റിഅയൊണൈസേഷൻ യുഗത്തെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള അന്വേഷണം ആണ് ഗവേഷണം നടത്തുന്നത്. 2018-ലെ റോയൽ സൊസൈറ്റി അഥീന സമ്മാനം നേടിയിരുന്നു.[4][5]

എമ്മ ചാപ്മാൻ 1985-ൽ ജനിച്ചു. വളർന്നത് മാഞ്ചസ്റ്ററിലാണ്. എഡിൻബർഗ് സർവകലാശാലയിൽ നിന്ന് ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് സാഹിത്യം പഠിച്ചു. തുടർന്ന് ലണ്ടൻ സർവകലാശാലയിലെ റോയൽ ഹോളോവേയിൽ ക്രിയേറ്റീവ് റൈറ്റിംഗിൽ ബിരുദാനന്തര ബിരുദം നേടി. യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിക്ക് ശേഷം, സ്കാൻഡിനേവിയയിൽ യാത്ര ചെയ്തു, ഇപ്പോൾ പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയയിലെ പെർത്തിൽ താമസിക്കുന്നു.

2010-ൽ ഡർഹാം യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റിയിൽ ഭൗതികശാസ്ത്രത്തിൽ മാസ്റ്റർ ഓഫ് ഫിസിക്‌സ് (എംഫിസ്) ബിരുദത്തിന് ചാപ്മാൻ ഫസ്റ്റ് ക്ലാസ് ബഹുമതികൾ നേടി.[6]ലണ്ടനിലെ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി കോളേജിൽ [6]പിഎച്ച്ഡി, സീയിംഗ് ദി ലൈറ്റ്: ഫോർഗ്രൗണ്ട് റിമൂവൽ ഇൻ ഡാർക്ക് ആൻഡ് ഡിം ഏജസ്, [7]എന്ന വിഷയത്തിൽ പൂർത്തിയാക്കി. യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി കോളേജ് ലണ്ടൻ ക്രിസ് സ്കിന്നർ ഡിപാർട്ട്മെന്റ് ഓഫ് ഫിസിക്സ് ആൻഡ് ആസ്ട്രോണമി തീസിസ് സമ്മാനം നേടി.[1]പിഎച്ച്ഡി സംസ്കാരത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും അത് സ്ത്രീകളെ എങ്ങനെ ബാധിക്കുമെന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ചും ചാപ്മാൻ ആശങ്കാകുലയായി.[8]

ഗവേഷണവും കരിയറും[തിരുത്തുക]

പിഎച്ച്ഡിക്ക് ശേഷം ചാപ്മാൻ ലണ്ടൻ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി കോളേജിൽ സ്ക്വയർ കിലോമീറ്റർ അറേ ധനസഹായത്തോടെ പോസ്റ്റ്ഡോക്ടറൽ ഗവേഷണത്തിനായി തുടർന്നു.[9]ചാപ്മാന് 2013-ൽ റോയൽ ആസ്ട്രോണമിക്കൽ സൊസൈറ്റി റിസർച്ച് ഫെലോഷിപ്പ് ലഭിച്ചു.[6]2014-ൽ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് ഫിസിക്സ് ആദ്യകാല കരിയർ വുമൺ ഫിസിസ്റ്റ് ഓഫ് ദ ഇയർ അവാർഡ് നേടി.[10]2018-ൽ റോയൽ സൊസൈറ്റി ചാപ്മാന് ഡൊറോത്തി ഹോഡ്ജ്കിൻ ഫെലോഷിപ്പ് നൽകി.[11]

അവളുടെ ഗവേഷണങ്ങൾ പ്രപഞ്ചത്തിലെ നക്ഷത്രങ്ങൾ പ്രകാശം പരത്താൻ തുടങ്ങിയ കാലത്തെ യുഗീയവൽക്കരണ കാലഘട്ടത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നു.[12]ലോ-ഫ്രീക്വൻസി അറേ ദൂരദർശിനി (ലോഫർ) ചാപ്മാൻ ഇതിനായി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.[12][13][14]

2017-ൽ ചാപ്മാൻ ലോറിയൽ-യുനെസ്കോ ഫോർ വുമൺ ഇൻ സയൻസ് അവാർഡുകളിൽ വളരെയധികം പ്രശംസിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.[15]ബ്ലൂംസ്ബറി പബ്ലിഷിംഗ് അവളുടെ ആദ്യ പുസ്തകം ഫസ്റ്റ് ലൈറ്റ് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു. ചാപ്മാൻ ചെൽട്ടൻഹാം സയൻസ് ഫെസ്റ്റിവലിൽ ക്ഷണിക്കപ്പെട്ട പ്രഭാഷകയായിരുന്നു.[16] 2018 ന്യൂ സയന്റിസ്റ്റ് ലൈവിൽ നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളുടെ ആദ്യ കാലഘട്ടത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് അവർ സംസാരിക്കുന്നു.[17][18]

1752 ഗ്രൂപ്പ്[തിരുത്തുക]

റോയൽ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂഷൻ, വെൽകം കളക്ഷൻ, ബിബിസി എന്നിവയിൽ ശാസ്ത്രത്തിലെ സ്വാധിനശക്തിയെക്കുറിച്ച് അവർ സംസാരിച്ചു.[19][20][21][22]അക്കാദമിയിലെ സ്റ്റാഫ്-വിദ്യാർത്ഥി ലൈംഗിക പീഡനം അവസാനിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ഒരു ലോബിയിംഗ് ഗ്രൂപ്പായ 1752 ഗ്രൂപ്പിലെ അംഗമാണ് ചാപ്മാൻ.[23][24]ഈ വിഷയത്തിൽ ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ യൂണിയൻ ഓഫ് പ്യുർ ആന്റ് അപ്ലൈഡ് ഫിസിക്സ് (ഐയുപിപി) ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ കോൺഫറൻസ് ഫോർ വിമൻ ഫോർ ഫിസിക്‌സിൽ മുഖ്യ പ്രഭാഷകയായിരുന്നു.[25] സ്റ്റാഫ്-വിദ്യാർത്ഥി ലൈംഗിക പീഡനത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് ഒരു സർവേ നടത്താൻ അവർ നാഷണൽ യൂണിയൻ ഓഫ് സ്റ്റുഡന്റ്‌സുമായി (എൻ‌യു‌എസ്) പങ്കാളിയായി.[26]ഉന്നതവിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിൽ വ്യാപകമായ ദുരാചാരമുണ്ടെന്നും സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾ ഇരകളെ വേണ്ടത്ര പിന്തുണയ്ക്കുന്നില്ലെന്നും അവർ കണ്ടെത്തി.[27]

സ്റ്റാഫ്-വിദ്യാർത്ഥി ലൈംഗിക പീഡനവും അക്കാദമിയിലെ ഭീഷണിപ്പെടുത്തലും അവസാനിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള പ്രവർത്തനത്തിന് 2018-ൽ ചാപ്മാന് റോയൽ സൊസൈറ്റി അഥീന സമ്മാനം ലഭിച്ചു.[4][28]

2013-ലെ റോയൽ ആസ്ട്രോണമിക്കൽ സൊസൈറ്റി മൈക്കൽ പെൻസ്റ്റൺ തീസിസ് പ്രൈസ്, 2013-ലെ യു‌സി‌എൽ ക്രിസ് സ്കിന്നർ ഡിപ്പാർട്ട്മെന്റ് ഓഫ് ഫിസിക്സ് ആൻഡ് ആസ്ട്രോണമി തീസിസ് പ്രൈസ്, 2014-ലെ ഷെൽ ആൻഡ് ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് ഫിസിക്സ് അവാർഡ്, 2010-ലെ ഡർഹാം യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി ജെ.ബി.ചാൽമേഴ്‌സ് പ്രൈസ്, 2017-ലെ L’Oréal Women in Science Fellowship, £ 1000 എന്നിവയും ലഭിച്ചിരുന്നു.[29]

സ്വകാര്യ ജീവിതം[തിരുത്തുക]

പിഎച്ച്ഡിയുടെ അവസാന വർഷത്തിലാണ് ചാപ്മാന് ആദ്യത്തെ കുഞ്ഞ് ജനിച്ചത്.[30] അവർക്ക് മൂന്ന് മക്കളുണ്ട്.[31]
