ജീവിതരേഖ[തിരുത്തുക]
ഏകദേശം 588-നടുത്ത് (ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ ഫ്രാൻസ്) ജനിച്ച എലിജിയസ് ഒരു സ്വർണ്ണപ്പണിക്കാരനായിരുന്നു. സമർത്ഥനും വിശ്വസ്തനുമായിരുന്ന എലിജിയസിനെ പാരീസിലെ ക്ലോട്ടയർ രണ്ടാമൻ രാജാവ് ഒരിക്കൽ ഒരു സിംഹാസനം നിർമ്മിക്കുവാൻ ഏർപ്പെടുത്തി. എന്നാൽ രാജാവ് നൽകിയ സ്വർണ്ണം കൊണ്ട് അദ്ദേഹം രണ്ടു സിംഹാസനങ്ങൾ നിർമ്മിച്ചു നൽകി. ഈ പ്രവൃത്തിയിൽ സന്തുഷ്ടനായ രാജാവ് എലിജിയനെ തന്റെ സ്വർണ്ണഖനികളുടെ സൂക്ഷിപ്പുകാരനായി നിയമിച്ചു.
പ്രാർഥനകളിലൂടെയും ഉപവാസമനുഷ്ഠാനങ്ങളിലൂടെയും ജീവിച്ചിരുന്ന എലിജിയസ് തന്റെ സമ്പാദ്യങ്ങൾ സാധുജനങ്ങൾക്ക് ധാനം നൽകി. രോഗികളെയും നിരാലംബരെയും സഹായിക്കുകയും ശുശ്രൂഷിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതിൽ തൽപ്പരനായിരുന്നു. അടിമ വേല ചെയ്തിരുന്നവരെ അദ്ദേഹം വിലയ്ക്കു വാങ്ങി മോചിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു. അനാഥർ, അടിമകൾ, രോഗികൾ, ഭിക്ഷക്കാർ എന്നിവരെ എലിജിയസ് തന്റെ ഭവനത്തിൽ താമസിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു.
ദേവാലയങ്ങളും ആശ്രമങ്ങളും അദ്ദേഹം സ്വസമ്പാദ്യം കൊണ്ട് പണികഴിപ്പിച്ച എലിജിയസ് സുവിശേഷ പ്രഘോഷണത്തിലൂടെ അക്രൈസ്തവരെ ക്രൈസ്തവ വിശ്വാസത്തിലേക്കടുപ്പിച്ചു. സഭാധികാരികൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഫ്രാൻസിലെ നോയണിലെ മെത്രാനായി നിയമനം നടത്തുവാൻ ആലോചിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ നിലവിൽ വൈദികനല്ലാത്ത എലിജിയസ് മെത്രാൻ സ്ഥാനം നിരസിച്ചു. തുടർന്ന് പൗരോഹിത്യ പഠനം നടത്തി വൈദികനായ ശേഷം എലിജിയസ് മെത്രാൻ പദവി വഹിച്ചു. 660 ഡിസംബർ ഒന്നിനു കടുത്ത ജ്വരം ബാധിച്ച് 71-ആം വയസ്സിൽ എലിജിയസ് അന്തരിച്ചു. സ്വർണപ്പണിക്കാർ, കർഷകർ, ആശാരിമാർ എന്നിവരുടെ മധ്യസ്ഥനാണ് എലിജിയസ്.
റോമൻ കത്തോലിക്കാ സഭയും പൗരസ്ത്യ ഓർത്തഡോക്സ് സഭയും [3] ഡിസംബർ 1-ന് ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഓർമ്മയാചരിക്കുന്നു.
