വടക്കുകിഴക്കൻ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഉപഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തിലും തെക്കുകിഴക്കൻ ഏഷ്യയിലും തെക്കൻ ചൈനയിലും തായ്വാനിലും കാണപ്പെടുന്ന കീരിയുടെ ഒരു സ്പീഷീസാണ് ക്രാബ്-ഈറ്റിങ് മങ്കൂസ് (Herpestes urva) ഐ.യു.സി.എൻ. റെഡ് ലിസ്റ്റിലെ ഏറ്റവും കുറഞ്ഞ ആശങ്കയുള്ള ജീവിയാണിത്.[1]
1836-ൽ ബ്രെയിൻ ഹൗട്ടൺ ഹോഡ്സൺ ഇതൊരു ടൈപ്പ് സ്പെസിമെൻ ആയി വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ചു. ഇതിൻറെ ഉത്ഭവ സ്ഥാനം മധ്യനേപ്പാളാണ്. അവിടെ ഇതിനെ പ്രാദേശികമായി 'ഉർവ്വ' എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്നു.[3]
വിതരണവും ആവാസ വ്യവസ്ഥയും[തിരുത്തുക]
വടക്കുകിഴക്കൻ ഇന്ത്യ, വടക്കൻ മ്യാൻമർ, തായ്ലൻഡ്, പെനിൻസുലർ മലേഷ്യ, ലാവോസ്, കംബോഡിയ, വിയറ്റ്നാം എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ ക്രാബ്-ഈറ്റിങ് മങ്കൂസ് കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. ബംഗ്ലാദേശിൽ ഇത് വളരെ അപൂർവ്വമാണ്. സമുദ്രനിരപ്പിൽ നിന്ന് 1,800 മീറ്റർ (5,900 അടി) ഉയരത്തിൽ ഇതിനെ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.[1]
നേപ്പാളിൽ, ഉഷ്ണമേഖലാ നിത്യഹരിത, ഈർപ്പമുള്ള ഇലപൊഴിയും വനങ്ങളിൽ വസിക്കുന്നു, മാത്രമല്ല മനുഷ്യവാസ കേന്ദ്രങ്ങൾക്ക് സമീപമുള്ള കാർഷിക ഭൂമിയിലും ഇതിനെ നിരീക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.[4]ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ഇതിനെ ആസാമിലും അരുണാചൽ പ്രദേശിലും രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.[5][6]ബംഗ്ലാദേശിൽ, സിൽഹെറ്റ്, ചിറ്റഗോംഗ് പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലെ കിഴക്കൻ വനമേഖലയിലെ കുന്നുകളിൽ ഇതിനെ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.[7]മ്യാൻ‌മറിൽ, ബും‌പ ബം കുന്നുകളിൽ 930 മീറ്റർ (3,050 അടി) ഉയരത്തിലും, ഹുകാങ്‌ വാലി, അലൗങ്‌ഡാവ് കഥപ നാഷണൽ പാർക്ക്, ബാഗോ യോമ, മൈൻ‌മോലെറ്റ്കാറ്റ് തൗംഗ് എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ 2001 നും 2003 നും ഇടയിൽ നടത്തിയ സർവേകളിൽ ഇത് രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.[8]ചൈനയിലെ ഗ്വാങ്‌സി, ഗുവാങ്‌ഡോംഗ്, ഹൈനാൻ പ്രവിശ്യകളിൽ 1997 നും 2005 നും ഇടയിൽ നടത്തിയ അഭിമുഖത്തിലും ക്യാമറ ട്രാപ്പിംഗ് സർവേയിലും ഉപ ഉഷ്ണമേഖലാ ലൈംസ്റ്റോൺ കാടുകളിൽ ഇതിനെ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.[9]
