ബ്ലൂബെറി മഫിൻ ശിശു
അസ്ഥിമജ്ജയ്ക്ക് പുറമേ ഉള്ള അവയവങ്ങളിൽ രക്തകോശങ്ങളുടെ ഉത്പാദനം നടക്കുമ്പോൾ ശിശുക്കളുടെ ശരീരത്തിൽ നീല നിറത്തിലുള്ള പാടുകൾ ഉണ്ടാവും. ഈ അവസ്ഥയെയാണ് ബ്ലൂബെറി മഫിൻ ശിശു (Blueberry muffin baby) എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്നത്.[1][2] ചർമ്മത്തിനടിയിൽ രക്തം കട്ടപിടിച്ച് ഉണ്ടാവുന്ന പാടുകളാണ് നീല നിറത്തിൽ പുറത്തേക്ക് കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്. പാടുകൾക്ക് നീല ബെറികൾ കൊണ്ടുണ്ടാക്കുന്ന മഫിൻ എന്ന പലഹാരത്തോട് സാമ്യമുള്ളതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഈ അവസ്ഥയെ ബ്ലൂബെറി മഫിൻ ശിശു എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്നത്. തലയിലും, കഴുത്തിലും, നെഞ്ചിലും, വയർ ഭാഗത്തുമാണ് കൂടുതലായും നീല പാടുകൾ കാണപ്പെടുക. ആദ്യകാലങ്ങളിൽ ഇവ റുബെല്ല മൂലം മാത്രം ഉണ്ടാവുന്ന പാടുകൾ ആണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിച്ചു പോന്നിരുന്നു.[3] എന്നാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ ഇവ ന്യൂറോബ്ലാസ്റ്റോമ പോലുള്ള മറ്റു പല ശിശുരോഗങ്ങളിലും കാണപ്പെടാം എന്ന് കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. സൈറ്റോമെഗലോ വൈറസ് ബാധ മൂലവും ബ്ലൂബെറി മഫിൻ പാടുകൾ കാണപ്പെടാം.[4]
