ഫ്രഞ്ചുകാരനായ ഒരു ജീവശാസ്ത്രകാരനും എഴുത്തുകാരനുമായിരുന്നു ആൻസെൽമി ഗാറ്റെൻ ഡെസ്മാറെസ്റ്റ് (Anselme Gaëtan Desmarest) (മാർച്ച് 6, 1784 – ജൂൺ 4, 1838). അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പിതാവായിരുന്നു Nicolas Desmarest കൂടാതെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മകൻ Eugène Anselme Sébastien Léon Desmarest ഉം ആയിരുന്നു.[1] 1820 -ൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ നാഷണൽ അകാഡെമി ഓഫ് മെഡിസിനിലേക്ക് തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു.
തവിട്ട് ആൽഗയായ Desmarestia അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ബഹുമാനാർത്ഥം നാമകരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടതാണ്. അതുപോലെ തന്നെയാണ് അതിന്റെ കുടുംബമായ[2] Desmarestiaceae -യും അതിന്റെ നിരയായ Desmarestiales ഉം .
