റോയൽ ആൽബർട്ട് ഹാളിൽ പരിശീലനം നേടിയ ലീ, [5] പിന്നീട് 1932- ൽ അവർക്ക് 19 വയസ്സുള്ളപ്പോൾ ഹിസ് ലോർഡ്ഷിപ്പ് (1932) എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിൽ അരങ്ങേറ്റം നടത്തി. [3]. 1930 കളുടെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ നിരവധി ചിത്രങ്ങളിൽ അഭിനയിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും പരമൗണ്ട് ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് നിർമ്മിച്ച ക്വാട്ട ക്വിക്കീസിൽ അവർ ക്രമേണ കൂടുതൽ പ്രധാന വേഷം അവതരിപ്പിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി.[6] സമ്പന്നരുടെ ഇടയിൽ നിർമ്മിച്ച ചെൽസീ ലൈഫ് (1933) പോലുള്ള ചിത്രങ്ങളിൽ അവർക്ക് കൂടുതൽ പ്രശസ്തി നേടികൊടുത്തു. ഇതിൽ ലൂയിസ് ഹെയ് വാർഡിനൊപ്പം അഭിനയിച്ചു. ചെൽസിയിലെ കലാപരമായ സമൂഹത്തിൽ ചിത്രീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.[7]
