ആദ്യകാല ജീവിതവും വിദ്യാഭ്യാസവും[തിരുത്തുക]

ഡബ്ലിനിലെ ബെൽ‌വെഡെരെ കോളേജിലായിരുന്നു ഹില്ലിന്റെ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം. ഡബ്ലിനിലെ ട്രിനിറ്റി കോളേജിൽ നിന്ന് മെഡിസിൻ പഠിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം 1978 ൽ ഫൗണ്ടേഷൻ സ്കോളറായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. [5] അതിനുശേഷം അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു വർഷക്കാലം ഓക്സ്ഫോർഡിലെ മഗ്ഡാലൻ കോളേജിലേക്ക് മാറി. പക്ഷേ 1982 ൽ യോഗ്യത നേടിക്കൊണ്ട് ബാക്കി മെഡിക്കൽ ബിരുദം പൂർത്തിയാക്കാൻ അദ്ദേഹം അവിടെത്തന്നെ തുടർന്നു. [6][7] ബിരുദാനന്തര പഠനത്തിനായി ഓക്സ്ഫോർഡ് സർവകലാശാലയിൽ തുടർന്ന അദ്ദേഹം ജോൺ ബി. ക്ലെഗിന്റെ [2][8]മേൽനോട്ടത്തിൽ തലസീമിയയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഗവേഷണത്തിന് 1986 ൽ ഡോക്ടർ ഓഫ് ഫിലോസഫി ബിരുദം നേടി.[9]

വെൽക്കം ട്രസ്റ്റ് സെന്റർ ഫോർ ഹ്യൂമൻ ജനിറ്റിക്സിൽ പഠിച്ച സമയത്ത് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഗവേഷണ സംഘം മലേറിയ, ക്ഷയം, എച്ച്ഐവി തുടങ്ങിയ അണുബാധകൾക്കുള്ള ജനിതക സാധ്യതയെക്കുറിച്ച് പഠിച്ചു. പ്രൈം-ബൂസ്റ്റ് ക്രമത്തിൽ അഡെനോവൈറസ്, മോഡിഫൈഡ് വാക്സിനിയ അങ്കാറ (എംവി‌എ) വൈറൽ വെക്റ്റർ വാക്സിനുകൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് സെല്ലുലാർ (ടി-കോശം) പ്രതിരോധശേഷി ഉൽപാദിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വാക്സിനുകൾ അദ്ദേഹം ഇപ്പോൾ വികസിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണ്. [10]ക്ലിനിക്കൽ പരീക്ഷണങ്ങളിൽ പരീക്ഷിച്ച മലേറിയയ്‌ക്കെതിരായ വാക്സിനുകൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സംഘം വികസിപ്പിച്ചെടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.[11]പശ്ചിമാഫ്രിക്കൻ എബോള വൈറസ് പകർച്ചവ്യാധിയോടുള്ള പ്രതികരണമായി 2014 ൽ അദ്ദേഹം എബോള വാക്സിൻ (സിഎഡി 3-സെബോവ്) ക്ലിനിക്കൽ പരീക്ഷണത്തിന് നേതൃത്വം നൽകി.
