ജപ്പാനിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന, സജീവമായേക്കാവുന്ന ഒരു അഗ്നിപർവ്വതമാണ് ഹകു പർവതം. സ്ട്രാറ്റോവോൾക്കാനോ ഗണത്തിൽപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ അഗ്നിപർവ്വതം ജപ്പാനിലെ ഗിഫു, ഫുക്കുയി, ഇഷിക്കാവ പ്രിഫക്ച്ചറുകളുടെ അതിർത്തിയിലായി സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നു. ഏതാണ്ട് 3—4 ലക്ഷം വർഷം മുമ്പ് ആദ്യമായി സജീവമായ അഗ്നിപർവ്വതത്തിൽനിന്ന് 1659-ൽ ആണ് അവസാനമായി ലാവാ പ്രവാഹം ഉണ്ടായത്. തതെയാമ, ഫ്യൂജിയാമ പർവ്വതങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം ജപ്പാനിൽ പൊതുവേ മൂന്നു വിശുദ്ധ പർവ്വതങ്ങളായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്നവയിലൊന്നാണ് ഹകു പർവ്വതവും.[2]
