സെറാഡോ (Portuguese pronunciation: [seˈʁadu], [sɛˈʁadu]) ബ്രസീലിൽ പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് ഗോയാസ്, മറ്റോ ഗ്രോസോ ഡോ സുൾ, മറ്റോ ഗ്രോസോ, ടൊക്കാന്റിൻസ്, മിനാസ് ഗെറൈസ് തുടങ്ങിയ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലെ വിശാലമായ ഉഷ്ണമേഖലാ സാവേന പരിസ്ഥിതിമേഖലയാണ്. ബ്രസീലിന്റെ മദ്ധ്യഭാഗത്തുള്ള പീഠഭൂമിയിലാണ് സെറാഡോ ബയോമിന്റെ കാതലായ ഭാഗം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. വനസവേന, വൃക്ഷനിബിഡമായ സവേന, പുൽവർഗ്ഗങ്ങളടങ്ങിയ സവേന എന്നിവയാണ് സെറാഡോയിലെ പ്രധാന ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥകൾ. സവേന ഈർപ്പനിലങ്ങളും ഗാലറി വനങ്ങളും ഇതിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.[1] ആമസോൺ മഴക്കാടുകൾക്കുശേഷം ബ്രസീലിലെ പ്രധാന ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥയിൽ രണ്ടാം സ്ഥാനമുള്ള ഇത് രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ ഭൂവിസ്തൃതിയുടെ 21 ശതമാനമായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.[2]
ബ്രസീലിയൻ സെറാഡോയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ആദ്യത്തെ വിശദമായ വിവരങ്ങൾ ഡെന്മാർക്ക് സസ്യശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനായ യൂജനിയസ് വാമിംഗിന്റെ (1892) ബുക്ക് ലാഗോവ സാന്ത എന്ന ഗ്രന്ഥത്തിലൂടെയാണ് വെളിവാക്കപ്പെട്ടത്. ഇതിൽ മിനാസ് ഗെറെയ്സ് സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ സെറാഡോ സസ്യജാലങ്ങളുടെ പ്രധാന സവിശേഷതകളെക്കുറിച്ച് പ്രതിപാദിക്കുന്നു.[3] അന്നു മുതൽ നടത്തപ്പെട്ട ധാരാളം ഗവേഷണങ്ങൾ തെളിയിച്ചത് സെറാഡോ മറ്റെല്ലാ ഉഷ്ണമേഖലാ സവേനാ പ്രദേശങ്ങളേക്കാളും തദ്ദേശീയ ജൈവവൈവിദ്ധ്യത്താൽ സമ്പന്നമാണ് എന്നാണ്. ഏകദേശം 10,000 സസ്യവർഗങ്ങളും 10 ഇനം തദ്ദേശീയ പക്ഷികളും ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നതും ബൃഹത്തായ സസ്യ, ജന്തു ജൈവവൈവിധ്യ സ്വഭാവമുള്ള സെറാഡോയെ വേൾഡ് വൈഡ് ഫണ്ട് ഫോർ നേച്ചർ ലോകത്തെ ജീവശാസ്ത്രപരമായി ഏറ്റവും സമ്പന്നമായ സവേന എന്നാണ് വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ചത്.[4] സെറാഡോയിലെ ഏതാണ്ട് 200 ഇനം സസ്തനികൾ ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലും ഇതിൽ, 14 ഇനം മാത്രമെ ഇവിടെമാത്രം കാണപ്പെടുന്നതുള്ളൂ.[5]
