ഒരു പ്രമുഖ മറാത്തി എഴുത്തുകാരനും നിരൂപകനും [1] കവിയും[2] ഇന്തോളജിസ്റ്റും [3] പുരാണകഥാകാരനുമാണ് സാഹിബ് രാംറാവു ഖണ്ടാരെ.[4] അദ്ദേഹം മറാത്തി നാടകത്തിൽ ബോധധാരാ സമ്പ്രദായം കൊണ്ടുവരാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചു.[5]തന്റെ പ്രശസ്ത പുസ്തകമായ മറാത്യഞ്ച സമാജിക് സംസ്‌കൃതിക് ഈതാസ്, അതായത് സാമൂഹിക-സാംസ്കാരിക ചരിത്രം എന്നിവയിലൂടെ ചരിത്രരചനയിൽ അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു പുതിയ ശാഖ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു.[6]
1993 ൽ ഇന്ത്യയിലേക്ക് ആദ്യമായി ‘ഇന്റർ ഡിസിപ്ലിനറി സ്റ്റഡീസ് സിദ്ധാന്തം’ [7] അവതരിപ്പിച്ച സാഹെബ് ഖണ്ടാരെ കലയ്ക്കും സാഹിത്യത്തിനുമായി ഒരു പുതിയ ‘ഫോക്ലോറിക്കൽ ക്രിട്ടിസിസം’ രൂപീകരിച്ചു.[8]നാടോടിക്കഥകളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള താരതമ്യപഠനത്തിനായി അദ്ദേഹം ചില പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ഏഷ്യൻ കൗണ്ടികൾ സന്ദർശിച്ചു.
2002 ൽ ആദ്യമായി ആതാ ഉജാഡെൽ എന്ന പുസ്തകത്തിനും [9] 2003 ൽ ലോക്സാഹിത്യ ശബ്ബാ അനി പ്രയോഗ് എന്ന പുസ്തകത്തിനും [10] 2008 ൽ മറാത്യാഞ്ച സമാജിക് സംസ്‌കൃതിക് ഇതിഹാസ് എന്ന പുസ്തകത്തിനും [11] 2009 ൽ ബുദ്ധ ജാതക് എന്ന പുസ്തകത്തിനും [12]മഹാരാഷ്ട്ര സർക്കാരിൽ നിന്ന് മികച്ച സാഹിത്യ അവാർഡ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ലഭിച്ചു.
മികച്ച സർവകലാശാലാ അധ്യാപകനായി മഹാരാഷ്ട്ര സർക്കാർ 2004 ൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ആദരിച്ചു.[13]
