തിയ്യരും ഈഴവരും രണ്ടും രണ്ടാണ്. മലബാറിലെ തിയ്യർ 8 ഇല്ലക്കാർ ആണ്. മലബാറിലെ ഓരോ തിയ്യനും ഈ 8 ഇല്ലങ്ങളിൽ ഏതെങ്കിലും ഒന്നിൽ ഉൾപ്പെട്ടത്തായിരിക്ക­­ും. Thurson (1857) അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ Castes and tribes of southern Indiaയിൽ വ്യക്തമായ് പറഞ്ഞതാണ് തിയ്യർ ഈഴവർ അല്ല എന്ന്. 8 ഇല്ലങ്ങൾ അചാരങ്ങൾ ഇതൊക്കെ പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്.
