ഷിക്കാഗോ നദി, ഷിക്കാഗോ നഗരവും അതിന്റെ കേന്ദ്രഭാഗവും (ചിക്കാഗോ ലൂപ്പ്) ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള പ്രദേശത്തുള്ള 156 മൈൽ (251 ചതുരശ്ര കിലോമീറ്റർ)[1] നീളമുള്ള നദികളുടെയും കനാലുകളുടെയും ഒരു സംവിധാനമാണ്.[2] പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് നദിയുടെ നീളത്തിന് പ്രധാന്യം കല്പിക്കേണ്ടതില്ലെങ്കിലും, മഹാ തടാകങ്ങളും മിസിസിപ്പി നദീതടവും തമ്മിലും ആത്യന്തികമായി ഗൾഫ് ഓഫ് മെക്സിക്കോയുമായും ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ചിക്കാഗോ പോർട്ടേജ് സംബന്ധമായ ഭൂമിശാസ്ത്രപരമായ പ്രാധാന്യം കണക്കിലെടുക്കുമ്പോൾ നദി ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്.
