ഷാർലറ്റ് എലിസബത്ത് ഫെർഗൂസൺ-ഡേവി ഒബിഇ (1880 - 24 മാർച്ച് 1943) ഒരു ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് വൈദ്യനും സിംഗപ്പൂരിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ സ്ത്രീകളുടെയും കുട്ടികളുടെയും ക്ലിനിക്കായ സെന്റ് ആൻഡ്രൂസ് മെഡിക്കൽ മിഷന്റെയും സെന്റ് ആൻഡ്രൂ മിഷൻ ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിന്റെയും സ്ഥാപകയുമായിരുന്നു.

ജീവിതരേഖ[തിരുത്തുക]

ഐറിഷ് ഭൌമശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞൻ എഡ്വേർഡ് ഹല്ലിന്റെ മകളായി എസെക്സിൽ ജനിച്ച ഫെർഗൂസൺ-ഡേവി പിന്നീട്  ഒരു മെഡിക്കൽ ഡോക്ടറായി.[3][4] 1902-ൽ അവൾ ആംഗ്ലിക്കൻ റൈറ്റ് റെവറന്റ് ചാൾസ് ജെയിംസ് ഫെർഗൂസൺ-ഡേവിയെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചു.[5] ഫെർഗൂസൺ-ഡേവിയും ഭർത്താവും 1909-ൽ സിംഗപ്പൂരിലെത്തി.[6] സിംഗപ്പൂരിലേക്ക് വരുന്നതിനുമുമ്പായി അവർ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ഒരു വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്ര മിഷനറിയായും ജോലി ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.[7]

1913-ൽ, "ദരിദ്രരെയും അശരണരെയും" സഹായിക്കുന്നതിനായി സെന്റ് ആൻഡ്രൂ മെഡിക്കൽ മിഷൻ എന്ന സംഘടന സൃഷ്ടിക്കാൻ അവർ മുൻകയ്യെടുത്തു.[8] 1914-ൽ അവർ രണ്ടാമത്തെ ക്ലിനിക്ക് തുറന്നു.[9] 1921-ൽ, ഇൻ റബ്ബർ ലാൻഡ്സ്: ആൻ അക്കൗണ്ട് ഓഫ് ദി വർക്ക് ഓഫ് ചർച്ച് ഇൻ മലയ എന്ന പുസ്തകം അവർ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു.[10]

1923-ൽ, സിംഗപ്പൂരിൽ, സെന്റ് ആൻഡ്രൂസ് മിഷൻ ഹോസ്പിറ്റൽ (SAMH) എന്ന പേരിൽ ആദ്യത്തെ വനിതകളുടേയും കുട്ടികളുടെയും ചികിത്സാലയം അവർ സ്ഥാപിച്ചു.[11] ഒന്നുമില്ലായ്കമയിൽനിന്ന് ആവശ്യമായ ഭൂമി നേടിടെയുത്ത അവർക്ക് വാസ്തുശില്പികളെക്കൊണ്ട് ജോലി ചെയ്യിക്കാനും  കഴിഞ്ഞു.[12] അടുത്ത വർഷം, 1924-ൽ, വെനീറൽ ഡിസീസ് ക്ലിനിക് ഉൾപ്പെടെ SAMH  ൽ ഏർപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്ന സേവനങ്ങൾ വിപുലീകരിച്ചു.[13] ഡേവി പരിശീലന ക്ലാസുകൾ സ്ഥാപിച്ചതോടൊപ്പം നഴ്‌സിംഗ്, മിഡ്‌വൈഫറി എന്നീ വിഷയങ്ങളിൽ പഠിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.[14]

ഫെർഗൂസൺ-ഡേവി 1927-ൽ ഓർഡർ ഓഫ് ദി ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് എംപയറിന്റെ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥയാവുകയും, അതേ വർഷം തന്നെ വിരമിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.[15] പിന്നീട് അവളും ഭർത്താവും ദക്ഷിണാഫ്രിക്കയിലേക്ക് താമസം മാറുകയം, അവിടെ ഭർത്താവ് ഫോർട്ട് ഹെയർ കോളേജിൽ ജോലി നേടുകയും ചെയ്തു.[16] ഫെർഗൂസൺ-ഡേവി 1943-ൽ അന്തരിച്ചു.[17]
