ബോർണിയോ,സുമാത്ര എന്നീ ദ്വീപുകളിലും പരിസര പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും കാണപ്പെടുന്ന പ്രൈമേറ്റ് ആണ് വെസ്റ്റേൺ ടാർസിയർ . ഇത് Horsfield's tarsier എന്ന പേരിലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.
സവിശേഷതകൾ
[തിരുത്തുക]ഇതിന്റെ കണ്ണുകൾ ഇതിന്റെ തലച്ചോറിനെക്കാൾ വലുതാണ്. കണ്ണുകൾ ശരീര ഭാരത്തിന്റെ പത്തിലൊന്ന് വരും. ഇത് രാത്രിയിൽ ഇരതേടുന്നു. ഇത്ര വലിയ കണ്ണുകൾ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടും , ഇരതേടുന്നത് പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കുന്ന ശബ്ദത്തിന്റെ പ്രതിധ്വനി കേട്ടിട്ടാണ്. മികച്ച ചാട്ടക്കാരൻ കൂടിയാണ് ഇവൻ . സ്വന്തം ശരീരത്തിന്റെ നാല്പതു മടങ്ങ് ദൂരം വരെ ഇതിനു ചാടിക്കടക്കാൻ കഴിയും. തല 180 ഡിഗ്രി വരെ തിരിക്കാനും ഇവന് കഴിയും. ഇത്രയൊക്കെ കഴിവുകൾ ഇതിനു ഉണ്ട് എങ്കിലും വന നശീകരണം മൂലം ഉണ്ടായ ആവാസ ശോഷണം കാരണം ഇതിന്റെ നിലനില്പ് ഇന്ന് അപകടത്തിലാണ്.
