ലക്കാവാന്ന നദി പെൻസിൽവാനിയയുടെ വടക്കുകിഴക്കൻ മേഖലയിലെ സുസ്ക്വെഹാന്ന നദിയുടെ 42 മൈൽ നീളമുള്ള (68 കി.മീ)[18] ഒരു പോഷകനദിയാണ്. ഒരുകാലത്ത് അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിലെ  ആന്ത്രാസൈറ്റ് തരം കൽക്കരി ഖനനത്തിന്റെ കേന്ദ്രമായിരുന്ന വടക്കൻ പോക്കോണോ പർവതനിരകളിലൂടെയാണ് ഇത് ഒഴുകുന്നത്. പെൻസിൽവാനിയയിലെ വടക്കൻ വെയ്ൻ കൗണ്ടിയിൽനിന്നാരംഭിച്ച് പെൻസിൽവാനിയയിലെ ദുരിയയിലെ കിഴക്കൻ ലുസെർൺ കൗണ്ടിയിൽ അവസാനിക്കുന്നു. നദിയുടെ താഴ്ന്ന ഭാഗങ്ങൾ 19-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ ഒരു വ്യാവസായിക കേന്ദ്രമായി നദീ തീരത്ത് വളർന്ന സ്ക്രാന്റൺ നഗരത്തിൻറെ നാഗരിക മേഖലയിലൂടെയാണ് ഒഴുകുന്നത്. ശാഖകളായി പിരിയുന്ന അരുവി എന്നർത്ഥം വരുന്ന ലെന്നി ലെനാപ് പദത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഇതിന്റെ പേര് ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞത്.[19]

സുസ്ക്വെഹന്ന, വെയ്ൻ കൌണ്ടികൾക്കിടയിലുള്ള അതിർത്തിയിൽ പടിഞ്ഞാറ്, കിഴക്ക് ശാഖകളായി എന്നീ രണ്ട് ശാഖകളായി നദി ഉത്ഭവിക്കുന്നു. ഓരോന്നിനും ഏകദേശം 12 മൈൽ (19 കി.മീ) നീളമുള്ള ഈ ശാഖകൾ, തെക്കോട്ട് തിരിഞ്ഞ് സമാന്തരമായി ഒഴുകി, യൂണിയൻ ഡേലിലെ സ്റ്റിൽവാട്ടർ ലേക്ക് റിസർവോയറിൽവച്ച് ലയിക്കുന്നു. ഈ സംയോജിത നദി ഫോറസ്റ്റ് സിറ്റി, കാർബൺ‍ഡേൽ, മെയ്ഫീൽഡ്, ജെർമിൻ, ആർച്ച്ബാൾഡ്, ജെസ്സപ്പ്, ബ്ലേക്ക്ലി, ഒലിഫന്റ്, ഡിക്സൺ സിറ്റി, ത്രൂപ്പ്, സ്ക്രാന്റൺ, ടെയ്‌ലർ, മൂസിക്, ഓൾഡ് ഫോർജ്, ദുറിയ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലൂടെ തെക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറായി ഒഴുകുന്നു.  സ്ക്രാൻറണ് 8 മൈൽ (13 കിലോമീറ്റർ) പടിഞ്ഞാറ്-തെക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറായി പിറ്റ്‍സൺ നഗരത്തിൻറെ വടക്കൻ അതിർത്തിയിൽവച്ച് സസ്ക്വെഹന്ന നദിയുമായി ചേരുന്നു. സുസ്ക്വെഹന്ന നദിയുടെ ഭാഗമാകുന്ന ഇത്, ആത്യന്തികമായി ചെസാപീക്ക് ഉൾക്കടലിലേയ്ക്ക് ഒഴുകുന്നു.

ഇരുപതാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ മധ്യത്തോടെ, നദിയുടെ നീർത്തടം ഖനികളിൽനിന്നുള്ള ഒഴുകുന്ന മലിന ജലത്താൽ ഗുരുതരമായി മലിനീകരണത്തെ നേരിട്ടു. മേഖലയിലെ വ്യവസായിക തകർച്ചയും ഫെഡറൽ, സംസ്ഥാന, സ്വകാര്യ ശ്രമങ്ങളും ജലത്തിന്റെ ഗുണനിലവാരം മെച്ചപ്പെടുത്തി. എന്നിരുന്നാലും, ചെസാപീക്ക് ബേയിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ മലിനീകരണ സ്രോതസ്സാണ് ലക്കവാന്ന നദി.[20] നദിയുടെ ഉപരി ഭാഗം ട്രൗട്ട് മത്സ്യബന്ധനത്തിനുള്ള ഒരു ജനപ്രിയ സ്ഥലമാണ്. 1997-ൽ ഇത് അമേരിക്കൻ പൈതൃക നദിയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
