[4] 16-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ അവസാന ദശകത്തിൽ റോമിലെ ജാൻ ബ്രൂഗൽ ദി എൽഡറുമായി ബ്രിൽ ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന കാലഘട്ടത്തിലുള്ളതാണ് ഈ പെയിന്റിംഗ്. 1590-കളിലെ ബ്രില്ലിന്റെ ചിത്രത്തിന് അതേ കാലഘട്ടത്തിലെ ബ്രൂഗലിന്റെ രചനയോട് ഘടനാസാദൃശ്യമുണ്ട്. വാസ്തവത്തിൽ ഈ പെയിന്റിംഗ് ആദ്യം ബ്രൂഗലിന്റേതായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. ബ്രിൽ ചെമ്പിൽ വരച്ച ആദ്യകാല രചനകളിലൊന്നാണ് പെയിന്റിംഗ്. 1575, [5] 1576, [4] അല്ലെങ്കിൽ 1582 ൽ റോമിലായിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ കലാകാരൻ പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയ ചെറിയ പരിമാണത്തിലുള്ള ലാൻഡ്സ്കേപ്പ് പെയിന്റിംഗുകളിൽ ഒന്നാണിത്. [6]

പെയിന്റിംഗ് ഒരു മികച്ച ഭൂപ്രകൃതി, കലാകാരന്റെ ഭാവന, ഫ്ലെമിഷ് ലാൻഡ്സ്കേപ്പിസ്റ്റുകളുടെ സവിശേഷത എന്നിവ ചിത്രീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ലാൻഡ്സ്കേപ്പ് പെയിന്റിംഗ് പാരമ്പര്യത്തിൽ ജോക്കിം പറ്റിനിർ, ഹെറി ഡി ബ്ലെസ്, പീറ്റർ ബ്രൂഗൽ ദി എൽഡർ എന്നിവരുടെ വക്താവുമായാണ് ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നത്. പാറക്കൂട്ടങ്ങളും, താഴ്‌വരയിലൂടെ ഒഴുകുന്ന നദിയുമുള്ള വിശുദ്ധ ഭൂമിയെ ഈ ചിത്രം കാണിക്കുന്നു. ഒട്ടകങ്ങളുള്ള ഒരു യാത്രാസംഘം ഒരു പാലത്തിലൂടെ നദി മുറിച്ചുകടക്കുന്നു. ചില ഇടയന്മാർ അവരുടെ ആട്ടിൻകൂട്ടത്തെ പരിപാലിക്കുന്നു. മുൻവശത്ത് നിൽക്കുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ഇടതുവശത്ത് പ്രതിനിധാനം ചെയ്യുന്ന വിശുദ്ധ ജെറോം ചിത്രരചനയിലെ കേന്ദ്രബിന്ദുവല്ല. ഭൂപ്രകൃതിയാണ് യഥാർത്ഥ വിഷയം. ഈ പെയിന്റിംഗ് ജെറോമിനെ വിഷയമാക്കിയ ബ്രില്ലിന്റെ ആദ്യ രചന അല്ല. മറ്റൊരു ചിത്രം (ഇന്ന് മാഡ്രിഡിലെ പ്രാഡോയിൽ) പതിനേഴാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ പീറ്റർ പോൾ റൂബൻസ് സ്വന്തമാക്കിയതായി റിപ്പോർട്ടുണ്ട്. റൂബൻസ് യഥാർത്ഥ സൃഷ്ടിക്ക് മുകളിൽ പെയിന്റ് ചെയ്യുകയും "സൈക്കെയും ജൂപിറ്ററും കഴുകന്റെ വേഷത്തിൽ " രൂപം മാറ്റിയതായും റിപ്പോർട്ടുണ്ട്. മാറ്റിയ ചിത്രത്തിയിലെ ജെറോമിന്റെ രൂപം ഇന്ന് എക്സ്-റേയിലൂടെ മാത്രമേ കാണാനാകൂ. വിശുദ്ധ ജെറോമിനോടൊപ്പമുള്ള പർവത ലാൻഡ്സ്കേപ്പിന്റെ അതേ പോസിലാണ് ഇത്. പ്രാഡോ ക്യാൻവാസുമായി താരതമ്യപ്പെടുത്തുമ്പോൾ ബ്രില്ലിന്റെ ചെറിയ ചെമ്പ് പെയിന്റിംഗിലെ വിശദാംശങ്ങളിലേക്ക് കൂടുതൽ ശ്രദ്ധ കാണിക്കുന്നു.
