മേരി ഡി ഗാരിസ്
മേരി ക്ലെമന്റീന ഡി ഗാരിസ് (ജീവിതകാലം: 16 ഡിസംബർ 1881 - 18 നവംബർ 1963) ഒരു ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയൻ മെഡിക്കൽ ഡോക്ടറായിരുന്നു. ഒന്നാം ലോകമഹായുദ്ധസമയത്ത് അവർ സ്കോട്ടിഷ് വനിതാ ആശുപത്രികൾക്കായി സെർബിയയിലെ ഓസ്ട്രോവോ യൂണിറ്റിലും യുദ്ധാനന്തരം ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയയിലെ ഗീലോംഗ് ആശുപത്രിയിലും ജോലി ചെയ്തു. പ്രസവാനന്തര പരിചരണത്തിന്റെ ഉറച്ച വക്താവായി അവർ അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു.

മേരി ക്ലെമന്റീന ഡി ഗാരിസ് 1881-ൽ വിക്ടോറിയയിലെ ചാൾട്ടൺ നഗരത്തിൽ ജനിച്ചു. മിൽഡുറ പട്ടണത്തിലെ വൈദികനും ജലസേചന രംഗത്തെ പയനിയറും എലിസീ ഡി ഗാരിസ് എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നതുമായ എലിഷ ക്ലെമന്റ് ഡി ഗാരിസ്, ഒരു മിഡ്‍വൈഫായിരുന്ന എലിസബത്ത് ബങ്കിൾ എന്നിവരുടെ മകളായിരുന്നു. മേരി, എലിസബത്ത് (ഇരട്ടകൾ), ക്ലെമന്റ്, (ജാക്ക് എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു), ലിലിയൻ, ആൽഫ്രഡ്, ലൂക്കാസ് (ജോർജ് എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു) എന്നിങ്ങനെ കുടുംബത്തിൽ ആറ് കുട്ടികളാണുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. 1898-ൽ മേരി ഡി ഗാരിസ് മെൽബണിലെ മെത്തഡിസ്റ്റ് വനിതാ കോളേജിൽ പഠിച്ച വർഷത്തെ ഡക്സ് ആയിരുന്നു. 1900-ൽ അവർ മെൽബൺ സർവകലാശാലയിൽ വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്ര പഠനത്തിന് ചേർന്നു.
മെൽബൺ സർവ്വകലാശാലയിൽ നിന്ന് വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്രത്തിൽ ചേരുന്ന മുപ്പത്തിയൊന്നാമത്തെ സ്ത്രീയായിരുന്നു ഡി ഗാരിസ്. 1904-ൽ ബാച്ചിലർ ഓഫ് മെഡിസിനും (എം.ബി.) 1905-ൽ ബാച്ചിലർ ഓഫ് സർജറിയും (ബി.എസ്.) ലഭിച്ചു. തുടർന്ന് മെൽബണിലെ രണ്ട് റസിഡന്റ് തസ്തികകളിലേക്ക് അവർ നിയമിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. 1907-ൽ, വിക്ടോറിയയിൽ ഡോക്ടറേറ്റ് ഓഫ് മെഡിസിൻ ലഭിക്കുന്ന രണ്ടാമത്തെ വനിതയായി അവർ മാറി.[1]
