മേരി അമ്പ്രി(Mary Ambree) ( 1584) സ്പെയിനിനോടുള്ള യുദ്ധത്തിൽ ബെൽജിയൻ ഘെന്റ് വിമോചനത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുത്ത ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് സൈനിക ക്യാപ്റ്റനായിരുന്നു. അവരെ പതിവായി ബാലെകളിൽ പരാമർശിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.[1]
1584-ൽ സ്പാനിഷ് ഗെൻറ്, ക്യാപ്റ്റൻ മേയർ ആമ്പാരി, മറ്റു ഡച്ച്, ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് വോളണ്ടിയർമാരുമായി ചേർന്ന് നഗരം വിമോചിപ്പിക്കാൻ യുദ്ധം ചെയ്തു. ഉപരോധത്തിൽ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ട ഒരു സർജന്റ് മേധാവിയായിരുന്ന കാമുകനുവേണ്ടി പ്രതികാരം ചെയ്യുന്നതായാണ് പറയപ്പെടുന്നത്.[1]
"Then captains courageous, whom death could not daunt,
Did march to the siege of the city of Gaunt,
They mustered their soldiers by two and by three,
And the foremost in battle was Mary Ambree."[2]
1620 മുതൽ പതിനേഴാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ ബാലെകളുടെ പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ഒരു വിഷയമായിരുന്നു അവർ. ക്യാപ്റ്റൻസ് കോറജിയസ് എന്ന നോവൽ, റുഡ്യാർഡ് കിപ്ലിംഗ് എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ബാലെയുടെ വിഷയമായിരുന്നു ' .[3] തോമസ് പെർസി (ഡ്രോമോറിലെ ബിഷപ്പ്) പേപ്പിസ് ശേഖരത്തിൽ ഈ ബാലെ സംരക്ഷിച്ചു.[4]
