സാന്റാലേലുകളുടെ നിരയിലെ ഹെമിപാരസിറ്റിക് സസ്യങ്ങളുടെ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പൊതുനാമമാണ് മിസിൽടോ. അവ ആതിഥേയ വൃക്ഷത്തിലോ കുറ്റിച്ചെടിയിലോ ചേർന്നുനിൽക്കുന്ന ഘടനയെ ഹൗസ്റ്റോറിയം എന്നു വിളിക്കുന്നു. അതിലൂടെ അവ ആതിഥേയ സസ്യത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ജലം, പോഷകങ്ങൾ എന്നിവ വലിച്ചെടുക്കുന്നു. അവയുടെ പാരസിറ്റിക് ജീവിതരീതികൾ ഉപാപചയത്തിൽ വിചിത്രമായ ചില മാറ്റങ്ങൾ വരുത്തുന്നതിലേയ്ക്ക് നയിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
