ആകൃതിയിലും പ്രകൃതിയിലും ഒരു പൂച്ചയെപ്പോലെ തോന്നിയ്ക്കുന്ന ഒരു ജീവിയാണ് മഞ്ഞുപൂച്ച .(Marbled pole cat). ഇതിന്റെ ശാസ്ത്രീയ നാമം Vormela peregusna എന്നാണ്.

കാണപ്പെടുന്ന സ്ഥലങ്ങൾ[തിരുത്തുക]

ചൈന, തെക്കുകിഴക്കൻ യൂറോപ്പ്, റഷ്യ എന്നീ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്. പുൽമേടുകളിലും വരണ്ട സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും മഞ്ഞുപൂച്ചയെ കാണാം.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10] [11]

ആകാരവിവരണം[തിരുത്തുക]

29 സെ.മീറ്റർ മുതൽ 35 സെ.മീറ്റർ വരെ തലയുൾപ്പെടെ ഇതിനു നീളമുണ്ട്. വലിയ ചെവികൾ ഇതിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്. കൈകാലുകൾ കുറിയതും ദ്രംഷ്ടങ്ങൾ നീളമുള്ളതും ശക്തിയുള്ളതുമാണ്. സാമാന്യം നീളമുള്ള വാലിനു കടും തവിട്ടു നിറവും മദ്ധ്യഭാഗത്തു മഞ്ഞപ്പട്ടയും ഉണ്ട്. കറുപ്പും വെളുപ്പുമായ പാടുകൾ മഞ്ഞുപ്പൂച്ചയുടെമുഖത്തുകാണാം.കറുത്ത വര കണ്ണിനു മീതേ ദൃശ്യമാണ്.പുറംഭാഗം ഇളം മഞ്ഞയും ക്രമത്തിലല്ലാത്ത തവിട്ടും ചുവപ്പും നിറഞ്ഞ കുത്തുകളാലും നിറഞ്ഞിരിയ്ക്കുന്നു.[12][13][14] പെൺപൂച്ചയ്ക്ക് 295 മുതൽ 600 ഗ്രാം വരെയും ആണിനു 320 മുതൽ 715 ഗ്രാം വരെ ഭാരമുണ്ടാകും.[15][16][17]

ഭക്ഷണം[തിരുത്തുക]

ചെറിയപ്രാണികൾ,എലികൾ,പല്ലികൾ, ചെറുമീനുകൾ,പക്ഷികൾ എന്നിവയെ ഭക്ഷിയ്ക്കും.ഒച്ചുകളെയും തവളകളെയും ചിലപ്പോൾ തിന്നാറുണ്ട്.

പ്രജനനം[തിരുത്തുക]

സാധാരണ മാർച്ചുമുതൽ ജൂൺ ആദ്യം വരെയാണ് ഇണചേരുന്ന മാസം .[18][19].ഗർഭകാലം 243 ദിവസം മുതൽ 327 ദിവസം വരെയാണ്.[20] .പ്രസവത്തിൽ സാധാരണ 4 മുതൽ 8 വരെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളുണ്ടാകും.അവ 40 ദിവസത്തിനുള്ളിൽ തന്നെ കണ്ണുതുറക്കും.[21] ശതുക്കളിൽ നിന്നു രക്ഷനേടാൻ ഒരു പ്രത്യേക ദ്രവം അവ ചീറ്റിയ്ക്കാറുണ്ട്.
