ദക്ഷിണ ഇറാനിലും പാകിസ്താനിലും ഇന്ത്യൻ ഉപഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തിലും ശ്രീലങ്കയിലും ശുദ്ധജല ആവാസസ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു മുതലയാണ് മഗ്ഗർ മുതല (Crocodylus palustris). മാർഷ് ക്രൊക്കൊഡൈൽ, ബ്രോഡ്-സ്നൗട്ടെഡ് ക്രൊക്കൊഡൈൽ, മഗ്ഗർ എന്നിവ ഇവയുടെ സാധാരണനാമങ്ങളാണ്. 1982 മുതൽ ഭൂട്ടാൻ, മ്യാൻമർ എന്നീ രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ ഇത് വംശനാശ ഭീഷണിയിലാണ്.[2]
