ലാൻഡ് പ്ലാനേറിയൻമാരുടെ ഒരു ഉപകുടുംബമാണ് ബൈപാലിന. ലോകമെമ്പാടും ഈ ജീവിവർഗ്ഗങ്ങളുടെ സാന്നിദ്ധ്യമുണ്ടെങ്കിലും പ്രധാനമായും മഡഗാസ്കർ, ഇന്ത്യൻ ഉപഭൂഖണ്ഡം, തെക്കുകിഴക്കൻ ഏഷ്യ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലാണ് ഇവ കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്. [2] [3]

ഉപകുടുംബമായ ബിപാലിനെയ്ക്ക് ഒരു അർദ്ധ ചന്ദ്രാകൃതമായ തലയുണ്ട്. "ഹാമർഹെഡ് വിരകൾ" എന്ന പൊതുനാമത്തിൽ ഇവ അറിയപ്പെടാൻ കാരണമിതാണ്. തലയ്ക്ക് കീഴ്ഭാഗത്ത് പെരിഫറൽ സെൻസറി കുഴികളും ഉപരിഭാഗത്ത് ചെറിയ പെരിഫറൽ കണ്ണുകളും ഉണ്ട്. [2] [4]
