കാനഡയിലെ നുനാവട്ടിൽ വെല്ലിംഗ്ടൺ ചാനലിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നതും കനേഡിയൻ ആർട്ടിക് ദ്വീപസമൂഹത്തിൽ ഉൾപ്പെട്ടതുമായ ഒരു ദ്വീപാണ് ബീച്ചെ ദ്വീപ്. ബാരോ കടലിടുക്ക് ഈ ദ്വീപിനെ ഡെവോൺ ദ്വീപിന്റെ തെക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറേ മൂലയിൽ നിന്ന് വേർതിരിക്കുന്നു.[1] ഇവിടുത്തെ മറ്റു സവിശേഷതകളിൽ വെല്ലിംഗ്ടൺ ചാനൽ, എറിബസ് ഹാർബർ,[2] ടെറർ ബേ എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.
ചരിത്രം
[തിരുത്തുക]1819 ൽ ക്യാപ്റ്റൻ വില്യം എഡ്വേർഡ് പാരിയാണ് ഈ ദ്വപ് സന്ദർശിച്ച് ആദ്യ യൂറോപ്യൻ വംശജൻ. കലാകാരനായ വില്യം ബീച്ചെയുടെ (1753–1839) സ്മരണാർത്ഥം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മകൻ ഫ്രെഡറിക് വില്യം ബീച്ചെ (1796–1856) ആണ് ഈ ദ്വീപിന് പേര് നൽകിയത്. അന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പാരിയുടെ ലെഫ്റ്റനന്റായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചിരുന്നു.[3]
