ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ബ്രോഡ്കാസ്റ്റിംഗ് കോർപ്പറേഷന്റെ ഉടമസ്ഥതയിലുള്ള ഒരു ടെലിവിഷൻ ചാനലാണ് ബിബിസി വൺ. യുണൈറ്റഡ് കിങ്ഡം, ഐൽ ഓഫ് മാൻ, ചാനൽ ദ്വീപുകൾ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ സംപ്രേഷണം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ചാനൽ ബിബിസി യുടെ മുഖ്യ ചാനലാണ്. 1936 നവംബർ 2 ന് ബിബിസി ടെലിവിഷൻ സർവീസ് എന്ന പേരിൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ ഈ ചാനൽ ലോകത്തിലെ ആദ്യ പതിവ് ടെലിവിഷൻ സേവനമായിരുന്നു.[2] 1960 ൽ ബിബിസി ടിവി എന്ന പേരിൽ ഇത് പുനർനാമകരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടു. 1964 ൽ സഹോദരി ചാനൽ ബിബിസി 2 പ്രവർത്തനം തുടങ്ങുന്നതു വരെ ഈ പേര് ഉപയോഗിച്ചു. അന്ന് ബിബിസി 1 എന്ന് വീണ്ടും പുനർനാമകരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട ചാനൽ 1997 ൽ നിലവിലുള്ള ബിബിസി വൺ എന്ന അക്ഷരവിന്യാസം സ്വീകരിച്ചു.
2012-13 ലെ ചാനലിന്റെ വാർഷിക ബജറ്റ് 1.14 കോടി ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് പൗണ്ട് ആയിരുന്നു.[3] ബിബിസിയുടെ മറ്റ് പ്രാദേശിക ടെലിവിഷൻ ചാനലുകൾ പോലെ ടെലിവിഷൻ ലൈസൻസ് ഫീസ് വഴിയാണ് ഈ ചാനൽ ചെലവുകൾ കണ്ടെത്തുന്നത്. അതിനാൽ കച്ചവട പരസ്യങ്ങളില്ലാതെ, തടസ്സരഹിതമായി പരിപാടികൾ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. പരമ്പരാഗത എതിരാളിയായ ഐടിവിയേക്കാൾ മുന്നിലായ ഈ ചാനൽ യുണൈറ്റഡ് കിംഗ്ഡത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ പ്രേക്ഷകരുള്ള ടെലിവിഷൻ ചാനൽ ആണ്.
ബിബിസി വൺ വർഷം തോറും 1,880 മണിക്കൂർ ദൈർഘ്യം വരുന്ന വസ്തുതാപരവും പഠന സംബന്ധിച്ച തുമായ പരിപാടികൾ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. പ്ലാനറ്റ് എർത്ത്, ദ ബ്ലൂ പ്ലാനറ്റ്, ലൈഫ്, നേച്ചർസ് ഗ്രേറ്റസ്റ്റ് ഇവൻറസ്, പ്ലാനറ്റ് എർത്ത് II, ബ്ലൂ പ്ലാനറ്റ് II തുടങ്ങിയ പ്രശസ്ത പ്രകൃതിശാസ്ത്ര ഡോക്യുമെൻറുകളും ഇതിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.
