മഹത്തായ യുവാൻ(ചൈനീസ്: ; പിൻയിൻ: Dà Yuán; Mongolian: Yehe Yuan Ulus[ii]) എന്ന് ഔദ്യോഗികമായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന രാജവംശമാണ് യുവാൻ രാജവംശം(ചൈനീസ്: ; പിൻയിൻ: Yuán Cháo).[4] മംഗോളിയൻ ഗോത്രമായ ബോർജിഗിങ്ങിന്റെ നേതാവായ കുബ്ലൈ ഖാൻ ആണ് ഈ രാജവംശം സ്ഥാപിച്ചത്. മംഗോളിയർ ഇതിനു മുൻപും ദശകങ്ങളായി ഇന്നത്തെ ഉത്തര ചൈന ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ ഭരിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിലും കുബ്ലൈ ഖാനാണ് ആദ്യമായി 1271ൽ ചൈനീസ് പരമ്പരാഗത രീതിയിൽ രാജവംശം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത്.[5] ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ രാജ്യം ഇന്നത്തെ ചൈനയുടെ മിക്ക പ്രദേശങ്ങളും ഇന്നത്തെ മംഗോളിയ,കൊറിയ തുടങ്ങിയ സമീപ പ്രദേശങ്ങളും ഉൾപ്പെട്ടതായിരുന്നു.[6] 1368 വരെ നിലനിന്ന ഈ രാജവംശമാണ് ചൈന മുഴുവനും ഭരിച്ച ആദ്യ വൈദേശിക ശക്തി. 1368ന് ശേഷം മംഗോളിയൻ ഭരണാധികാരികൾ മംഗോളിയയിലേക്കു തിരിച്ചു പോയി ഉത്തര യുവാൻ രാജവംശത്തിന്റെ ഭരണം തുടരുകയായിരുന്നു.[7] മംഗോളിയൻ ചക്രവർത്തിമാരിൽ ചിലർ ചൈനീസ് ഭാഷ പഠിച്ചപ്പോൾ മറ്റു ചിലർ അവരുടെ പ്രാദേശിക ഭാഷകളായ മംഗോളിയനും ഫാഗ്‌സ്-പ-ഭാഷയും മറ്റും മാത്രമാണ് ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നത്.[8]

യുവാൻ രാജവംശത്തെ മംഗോളി സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ പിൻഗാമിയായും ഒരു ചൈനീസ് സാമ്രാജ്യ രാജവംശമായും കണക്കാക്കുന്നു. മംഗോൾ സാമ്രജ്യത്തിന്റെ വിഭജനത്തിനു ശേഷം മോൻകെ ഖാന്റെ പിന്മുറക്കാർ ഭരിച്ച ഖാനെറ്റ് ആയിരുന്നു യുവാൻ രാജവംശം. ഔദ്യോഗിക ചൈനീസ് ചരിത്രമനുസരിച്ച് സോങ് രാജവംശത്തിനു ശേഷവും മിങ് രാജവംശത്തിനു മുൻപുമായി ഇവരും ദൈവം നിയോഗിച്ച ഭരണാധികാരി എന്ന പദവി ഉപയോഗിച്ചു. രാജവംശം സ്ഥാപിച്ചത് കുബ്ലൈ ഖാൻ ആണെങ്കിലും ഇദ്ദേഹം ടൈസു എന്ന പേരിൽ തന്റെ മുത്തച്ഛനായ ചെങ്കിസ് ഖാനെ ഔദ്യോഗിക സാമ്രാജ്യ രേഖകളിൽ രാജവംശ സ്ഥാപകനായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.[iii] രാജവംശത്തിന്റെ പേര്(《建國號詔》) പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചപ്പോൾ കുബ്ലൈ ഖാൻ രാജവംശത്തിന്റെ പേര് മഹത്തായ യുവാൻ എന്ന് പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുകയും മൂന്നു പരമാധികാരങ്ങളുടെയും അഞ്ചു ചക്രവർത്തിമാരുടെയും രാജവംശം മുതൽ താങ് രാജവംശത്തിന്റേതു വരെയുള്ള മുൻ ചൈനീസ് രാജവംശങ്ങളുടെ പിന്തുടർച്ച അവകാശപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു.[9]

ചൈനീസ് ചക്രവർത്തിയുടെ പദവിക്ക് പുറമെ മഹാനായ ഖാൻ എന്ന പദവിയും ചഗതായ്,ഗോൾഡൻ ഹോർഡ്,ൽഖാനെറ്റ് തുടങ്ങിയ പിൽക്കാല ഖാനേറ്റുകൾക്കു മേലായി കുബ്ലൈ ഖാൻ അവകാശപ്പെട്ടു. അതുകൊണ്ട് യുവാൻ രാജവംശത്തെ മഹാനായ ഖാന്റെ സാമ്രാജ്യം എന്നും പറയുന്നു. പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ഭാഗത്തെ ഖാന്മാർ യുവാൻ രാജവംശത്തിന്റെ മേൽക്കോയ്മ അംഗീകരിക്കിച്ചെങ്കിലും സ്വയം വികസനം തുടർന്നു[10][11]

രാജവംശത്തിന്റെ രൂപീകരണം

1264ൽ കുബ്ലൈ ഖാന്റെ നേതൃത്ത്വത്തിൽ മംഗോളിയൻ തലസ്ഥാനം കാരാക്കോറത്തു നിന്ന് ഖാൻബാലിക്വിലേക്കു മാറ്റി. 1266ൽ പഴയ ജുർച്ചൻ തലസ്ഥാനമായ സോങ്‌ടുവിനു(ഇന്നത്തെ ബീജിംഗ്) സമീപം പുതിയ നഗരം പണിതുയർത്തി.[12] 1271ൽ കുബ്ലൈ ഖാൻ ദൈവം നിയോഗിച്ച ഭരണാധികാരിയായി അവകാശപ്പെടുകയും 1272 മഹത്തായ യുവാന്റെ ആദ്യ വർഷമാണെന്ന് ചൈനീസ് പരമ്പരാഗത രാജവംശ പ്രഖ്യാപന രീതിയിൽ പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.[13] ഈ വാക്കിന്റെ ഉദ്ഭവം പ്രപഞ്ചോത്പത്തി എന്നോ ആദിശക്തി എന്നോ അർഥം വരുന്ന ഐ ചിങ് എന്ന വക്കിൽ നിന്നാണ്.[14] കുബ്ലൈ ഖാൻ ഖാൻബാലിക്വിനെ രാജവംശത്തിന്റെ മഹാ തലസ്ഥാനം അഥവാ ഡോങ്ഡു ആയി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.[15] ചൈനീസ് ചരിത്രത്തിൽ ഈ പുതു യുഗത്തെ സിയുവാൻ എന് വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.[16] രാജവംശത്തിന്റെ പേര് സ്വീകരിച്ച് മംഗോൾ ഭരണം ചൈനീസ് രീതിയിലേക്ക് മാറ്റിയത് ഒരു രാഷ്ട്രീയ വിജയം ആയിരുന്നു.[17] അദ്ദേഹം കൺഫ്യൂഷ്യൻ ആചാരങ്ങളും പൂർവികാരാധനാ ആചാരങ്ങളും ആചരിച്ച് ജ്ഞാനിയായ ചക്രവർത്തി എന്ന പ്രതിഛായ ഉണ്ടാക്കുകയും അതേസമയം ഒരു മംഗോളിയൻ നേതാവ് എന്ന തന്റെ വേരുകളിൽ തന്നെ നിൽക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.[18]
