സപുഷ്പികളിൽപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു സസ്യകുടുംബമായ ഓക്സാലിഡേസീയിലെ ഏറ്റഴും വലിയ ജീനസ്സാണ് ഓക്സാലിസ് (Oxalis) /ˈɒksəl[invalid input: 'i-']s/[1] ലോകത്തിന്റെ മിക്കഭാഗങ്ങളിലും വ്യാപിച്ചു വളരുന്ന ഓക്സാലിസ് സ്പീഷിസുകൾ ധ്രുവപ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ വളരാറില്ല. ബ്രസീൽ , മെക്സിക്കോ, ദക്ഷിണാഫ്രിക്ക തുടങ്ങിയ ഉഷ്ണമേഖലാപ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ വൈവിധ്യമാർന്ന ഓക്സാലിസ് സ്പീഷീസുകൾ വളരാറുണ്ട്.
ദ്വിലിംഗ സ്വഭാവത്തോടു കൂടിയ ഇവയുടെ പൂക്കൾ പ്രസമത (കൃത്യം മൂന്നായി വിഭജിക്കാവുന്ന-actinomorphy)പാലിക്കുന്നവയാണ്. വെവ്വേറെ നിൽക്കുന്ന അഞ്ച് വിദളങ്ങളും വെവ്വേറെ നിൽക്കുന്നതോ കൂടിച്ചേർന്നതോ ആയ അഞ്ച് മിനുസമുള്ള പുഷ്പദളങ്ങളും കൂടിച്ചേർന്നതാണ് ഇവയുടെ പുഷ്പവൃന്തം.
ഈ സസ്യജനുസ്സിൽ ഏകവർഷിസസ്യങ്ങളും ബഹുവർഷിസസ്യങ്ങളും ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇവയുടെ ഇലകൾ ഏകാന്തരന്യാസത്തിൽ ക്രമീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടതും സംയുക്ത പത്രങ്ങളോടു കൂടിയവയും, ഹസ്താകാരരൂപത്തിലുള്ളവയുമാണ്. ഇലകളിലെ സിരാവിന്യാസം ജാലികാസിരാവിന്യാസമാണ്. ഇവയ്ക്ക് പത്രവൃന്തത്തിന്റെ അടിയിലായി ഉപപർണ്ണങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാകാറില്ല.
