(ജനനം 1918 ജൂലൈ 14, മരണം 2007 ജൂലൈ 30). 62 ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങളും (ഇവയിൽ മിക്കവയും ഇദ്ദേഹം തന്നെ രചിച്ചതാണ്‌) 170-ലധികം നാടകങ്ങളും സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത ഇങ്മർ ബർഗ്മൻ ആധുനികസിനിമയിലെ അതികായന്മാരിൽ ഒരാളായി കണക്കാക്കുന്നു. അറുപതോളം വർഷം ഇദ്ദേഹം കലാരംഗത്ത് സജീവമായിരുന്നു.
ബാല്യം
സ്വീഡനിലെ ഉപ്സാലയിൽ എറിക് ബെർഗ്മാൻ-കാരിന്റെ ദമ്പതികളുടെ മകനായി ജനിച്ചു. പിതാവ് ലൂതറൺ വൈദികനായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ മതപരമായ ചുറ്റുപാടുകളിലാണ് ഇങ്മർ ബർഗ്മൻ വളർന്നത്. സ്റ്റോക്ഹോം ഹൈസ്കൂളിലും സ്റ്റോക്ഹോം സർവകലാശാലയിലുമായിരുന്നു പഠനം. സർവകലാശാലാ പഠനം പൂർത്തിയാക്കാതെ നാടകരംഗത്തും തുടർന്ന് സിനിമയിലും എത്തുകയായിരുന്നു. എട്ടാം വയസിൽതന്നെ തനിക്ക് മതവിശ്വാസം നഷ്ടമായതായി ബെർഗ്മൻ പിന്നീട് വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നു.
