പുള്ളീ ചോരക്കാലിയുടെ ആംഗലത്തിലെ പേര് spotted redshank എന്നാണ്. ശാസ്ത്രീയ നാമം Tringa erythropus എന്നാകുന്നു. തീരപ്രദേശത്തു കാണുന്ന പക്ഷിയാണ്. ദേശാടന പക്ഷിയാണ്. 1764ൽ ജർമ്മൻ ജന്തുശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനായിരുന്ന ശ്രീ പീറ്റർ സൈമൺ പല്ലാസ് (Peter Simon Pallas)ആണ് ഈ പക്ഷിയെ ആദ്യമായി പരാമർശിച്ചത്. [2]

ആർടിക് പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും ഉത്തര സ്കാൻഡിനേവിയയിലും ഉത്തര ഏഷ്യയിലും പ്രജനനം നടത്തുന്നു. മെഡന്ററേനിയൻ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലേക്കും ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ദ്വീപിലെ തെക്കു ഭാഗത്തേക്കും ഫ്രാൻസ്, ആഫ്രിക്കയിലെ ഉഷ്ണമേഖല പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലേക്കും ദേശാടനം നടത്തുന്നു. അപൂർവമായി ആസ്ട്രേലിയ യിലും, ഉത്തരഅമേരിക്കയിലും കാണുന്നു.

ഈ പക്ഷിക്ക് 29 മുതൽ 31 വരെ സെന്റ്റീ മീറ്റർ നീളമുണ്ട്.[3] ചിറകു വിരിപ്പ് 61മുതൽ67 വരെ സെന്റി . മീറ്റർ ഉം തൂക്കം 121 മുതൽ 205 വരെ ഗ്രാമും ആണ്.[4] പ്രജനന കാലത്ത് മുഴുവൻ കറുപ്പാണ്. പ്രജനന കാലത്ത് കാലിന്റെ നിറം ചാര നിറമാകും. പിന്നീട് ഉള്ള കാലത്ത് മങ്ങിയ നിറമാണ്. കൊക്കും ചുവപ്പു നിറമാണ്. നനുത്ത വരകളുള്ള മങ്ങിയ അടിവശം ഉണ്ട്.
