പിയോനി (peony or paeony) [2][3] പിയോണേസീ കുടുംബത്തിലെ ഒരേയൊരു ജനുസ്സായ പിയോണിയയിലെ ഒരു സപുഷ്പി സസ്യവും ഏഷ്യ, യൂറോപ്പ്, പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ അമേരിക്ക എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലെ തദ്ദേശവാസിയുമാണ്. ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞന്മാർ വേർതിരിച്ചറിയാൻ കഴിയുന്ന സ്പീഷീസുകളുടെ എണ്ണത്തിൽ 25 മുതൽ 40 സ്പീഷീസുകൾ വരെ വ്യത്യാസമുണ്ടെന്ന് കണ്ടെത്തിയിരുന്നു.[4][5] എന്നിരുന്നാലും നിലവിലുള്ള സമവായം 33 അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന സ്പീഷീസുകളാണ്.[6] സ്പീഷിസുകൾ തമ്മിലുള്ള ബന്ധം കൂടുതൽ വ്യക്തമാക്കേണ്ടതുമുണ്ട്.[7] ബഹുവർഷ കുറ്റിച്ചെടികൾ ആയ മിക്കവയും 0.25-1 മീറ്റർ (0.82-3.28 അടി) നീളമുള്ളവയാണ്. എന്നാൽ ചിലത് 0.25-3.5 മീറ്റർ (0.82-11.48 അടി) ഉയരമുള്ള മരംപോലെയുള്ള കുറ്റിച്ചെടികൾ ആണ്.
