നിപ വൈറസ് മൂലമുണ്ടാകുന്ന ഒരു വൈറൽ അണുബാധയാണ് നിപാ രോഗം[6]. പനി, ചുമ, തലവേദന, ശ്വാസതടസ്സം, കൺഫ്യൂഷൻ എന്നിവയൊക്കെ അണുബാധയുടെ ലക്ഷണങ്ങളായി കാണാറുണ്ട്. ലക്ഷണങ്ങളില്ലാതെയും നിപാ രോഗം കാണപ്പെടാറുണ്ട്[2][6]. ഇത് ഒന്നോ രണ്ടോ ദിവസത്തിനുള്ളിൽ രോഗിയെ കോമയിലേക്ക് നയിച്ചേക്കാം[2]. തലച്ചോറിലെ വീക്കം, അപസ്മാരം എന്നിവ രോഗം സുഖപ്പെട്ട ശേഷവും സങ്കീർണ്ണത സൃഷ്ടിക്കാറുണ്ട്[6].
രോഗകാരണം
[തിരുത്തുക]വവ്വാലുകളിലെ ചില ഇനങ്ങളിലൂടെയാണ് ഹെനിപവൈറസ് ജനുസ്സിലെ ഒരു തരം ആർഎൻഎ വൈറസായ നിപാ വൈറസ് (NiV) മനുഷ്യരിലും മറ്റ് മൃഗങ്ങളിലും എത്തിച്ചേരുന്നത്[6]. പഴം തീനി വവ്വാലുകളാണ് പ്രധാനമായും വൈറസിന്റെ ഉറവിടം[6]. ഇത് മനുഷ്യർക്കിടയിലും മറ്റ് മൃഗങ്ങളിൽ[6][11] നിന്നും മനുഷ്യരിലേക്കും പകരാം.[6] ഉറവിടമായോ വൈറസ് ബാധിതരുമായോ ഉള്ള നേരിട്ടുള്ള സമ്പർക്കത്തിലൂടെയാണ് രോഗം പകരുന്നത്[3]. രോഗലക്ഷണങ്ങളെ അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കിയുള്ള അനുമാനം, സ്ഥിരീകരിക്കാൻ ലബോറട്ടറി പരിശോധനയെ ആശ്രയിക്കുന്നു[4].
രോഗപരിചരണം
[തിരുത്തുക]നിപാ രോഗത്തിന് നിലവിൽ (2026) ചികിത്സയോ വാക്സിനോ കണ്ടുപിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടില്ല[6]. അനുബന്ധമായ ലക്ഷണങ്ങൾക്കുള്ള ചികിത്സകൾ (Symptomatic treatment) മാത്രമാണ് രോഗിക്ക് നൽകിവരാറുള്ളത്[6]. രോഗികളുമായും വൈറസ് ഉറവിടങ്ങളുമായുമുള്ള സമ്പർക്കം ഇല്ലാതാക്കുക എന്നതാണ് പ്രതിരോധമാർഗ്ഗം[5].
രോഗബാധകൾ
[തിരുത്തുക]1998-ൽ മലേഷ്യയിൽ രോഗപ്പകർച്ച തുടങ്ങിയതോടെയാണ് ഈ രോഗം തിരിച്ചറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. 1999 വരെ നീണ്ടുനിന്നു രോഗപ്പകർച്ച[6][11]. രോഗം ആരംഭിച്ച സുങ്കൈ നിപാ എന്ന ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് രോഗത്തിന്റെയും വൈറസിന്റെയും നാമം രൂപപ്പെട്ടത്[11].
2018 വരെ ഏകദേശം 700 പേർക്ക് രോഗം റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നതിൽ മരണനിരക്ക് 40 മുതൽ 75 ശതമാനം വരെയായിരുന്നു[7][9][8][10]. 2018-ൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ സംസ്ഥാനമായ കേരളത്തിൽ രോഗപ്പകർച്ചയിൽ 17 പേർ മരണപ്പെട്ടു[12].
