ധ്രുവക്കരടിയുടെ സംരക്ഷണ നിലയെ കുറിച്ച് അവബോധം വളർത്തുന്നതിനായി ഫെബ്രുവരിയിൽ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്ന ഒരു വാർഷിക പരിപാടിയാണ് അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ധ്രുവക്കരടിദിനം. ധ്രുവക്കരടിയുടെ അമ്മമാരും കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളും അവരുടെ മാളത്തിൽ ഉറങ്ങുന്ന സമയത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ചാണ് ഈ ദിനാചരണം. [1] [2]

ആഗോളതാപനത്തിന്റെ ആഘാതത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും ധ്രുവക്കരടി ജനസംഖ്യയിൽ കടൽ മഞ്ഞ് കുറയുന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ചും അവബോധം സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്നതിനാണ് അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ധ്രുവക്കരടി ദിനം സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. പോളാർ ബിയേഴ്സ് ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ ആണ് ഈ ദിനാഘോഷത്തിന് നേതൃത്വം നൽകുന്നത് കാർബൺ ഉൽപാദനം കുറയ്ക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള വഴികൾ കണ്ടെത്താൻ ഈ ദിവസം ആളുകളെ പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
