തോമസ് പാട്രിക് ഹ്യൂസ്
ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഇന്ത്യയിലെ (ഇപ്പോൾ പാകിസ്താൻ) പെഷവാറിലെ ചർച്ച് മിഷൻ സൊസൈറ്റിയിൽ (സിഎംഎസ്) മിഷനറി പ്രവർത്തകനായിരുന്നു തോമസ് പാട്രിക് ഹ്യൂസ്, (26 മാർച്ച് 1838 - ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 8, 1911).[1]
ഇസ്‌ലാമികവിശ്വാസത്തെപ്പറ്റി ആഴത്തിൽ പഠിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം എ ഡിക്ഷണറി ഓഫ് ഇസ്‌ലാം എന്ന പേരിൽ ബൃഹത്തായ ഒരു വിജ്ഞാനകോശം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
ജീവചരിത്രം[തിരുത്തുക]
ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിലെ ഷ്രോപ്പ്ഷയറിലെ ലുഡ്‌ലോയിൽ ജനിച്ച തോമസ് ഹ്യൂസ്[1], വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ ശേഷം ചർച്ച് മിഷനറി സൊസൈറ്റിയിൽ മിഷനറിയായി പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു.[2]
മിഷനറിയായി ചൈനയിലേക്കാണ് പോകേണ്ടിയിരുന്നതെങ്കിലും അത് അവിഭക്ത ഇന്ത്യയിലെ പെഷവാറിലേക്ക് മാറ്റപ്പെട്ടു. ഹ്യൂസും ഭാര്യയും ഇരുപത് വർഷത്തോളം അവിടെ തുടർന്നു[3][4].

ഹ്യൂസ് നിരവധി ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങൾ രചിച്ചു[5]. പഷ്തു ഭാഷക്കായി രചിക്കപ്പെട്ട പാഠപുസ്തകം ഗവണ്മെന്റ് വിദ്യാലയങ്ങളിൽ ഉപയോഗിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. എ ഡിക്ഷനറി ഓഫ് ഇസ്‌ലാം (A Dictionary of Islam: Being a Cyclopaedia of the Doctrines, Rites, Ceremonies, and Customs, Together with the Technical and Theological Terms, of the Muhammadan Religion.
