16, 17 നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളിൽ തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടിലെ തഞ്ചാവൂർ ഭരണാധികാരികളായിരുന്നു തഞ്ചാവൂർ നായക് രാജവംശം അല്ലെങ്കിൽ തഞ്ചാവൂർ നായക് സാമ്രാജ്യം.14 -ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ വിജയനഗര ചക്രവർത്തിയാണ് നായകരെ ആദ്യം പ്രൊവിൻഷ്യൽ ഗവർണർമാരായി നിയമിച്ചത്. അവർ മധുര, തഞ്ചൂർ, ജിംഗി തുടങ്ങി തമിഴ് രാജ്യത്തെ മൂന്ന് നായക്‌ഷിപ്പുകളായി വിഭജിച്ചു. വിജയനഗര സാമ്രാജ്യവുമായുള്ള സഖ്യം തുടർന്നെങ്കിലും പതിനാറാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ മധ്യത്തിൽ അവർ ഒരു സ്വതന്ത്ര രാജ്യമായി മാറി.സാഹിത്യത്തിന്റെയും കലയുടെയും സംരക്ഷണത്തിലൂടെ തഞ്ചാവൂർ നായകന്മാർ ശ്രദ്ധേയരായിരുന്നു.
