ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് മാതൃഭാഷയല്ലാത്ത വ്യക്തികളുടെ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ഭാഷപ്രാവീണ്യം നിർണ്ണയിക്കാൻ നടത്തുന്ന ഒരു പരീക്ഷയാണ് ടോഫൽ അഥവാ Test of English as a Foreign Language. ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് മുഖ്യഭാഷയായുള്ള നിരവധി നാടുകളിൽ പഠനത്തിനായി എത്തുന്ന വിദേശ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾ ടോഫൽ പരീക്ഷയിരുന്നു നിശ്ചിത സ്കോർ നേടിയിരിക്കണമെന്ന് സർവ്വകലശാലകൾ നിർദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നു. ഇത്തരത്തിൽ വിദേശിയരുടെ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പരിജ്ഞാനം അളക്കുന്ന രണ്ട് മുഖ്യ പരീക്ഷാ സംവിധാനങ്ങളാണ് ടോഫൽ പരീക്ഷയും , ഐ.ഇ.എൽ. ടി. എസ് പരീക്ഷയും. ടോഫൽ അമേരിക്കൻ സർവ്വകലാശാലകൾക്കും , ഐ.ഇ.എൽ.ടി.എസ് ബ്രിട്ടണിൽ പഠനത്തിനും വിദേശിയർക്ക് നിർബന്ധിത പ്രവേശന മാനദണ്ഡമാണ്.
നടത്തിപ്പുകാർ[തിരുത്തുക]
ഇ.ടി.എസ് അഥവാ Education Testing Service എന്ന സ്വകാര്യ സന്നദ്ധ സംഘടനയാണ് പരീക്ഷ രൂപകല്പന ചെയ്തു, നടത്തി, ഫലങ്ങൾ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ/ഇതര സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾക്ക് അയച്ച കൊടുക്കുന്നത്. ഒരു പരീക്ഷയിൽ ലഭിക്കുന്ന ഫലം രണ്ട് വർഷത്തേക്ക്പ്രാബല്യത്തിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും.

1964ൽ തുടങ്ങിയ ടോഫൽ, ആദ്യം കടലാസധിഷ്ഠിതവും, പിന്നീട് കമ്പ്യൂട്ടർ നിർണ്ണിതവും ,2005മുതൽക്ക് ഇന്റർനെറ്റ് അധിഷ്ഠിതവുമാണ്.
