ഗർഭാവസ്ഥയിലെ ഹൈപ്പർടെൻസിവ് രോഗം, മാതൃ ഹൈപ്പർടെൻസിവ് ഡിസോർഡർ എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇത് ഉയർന്ന രക്തസമ്മർദ്ദ വൈകല്യങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു ഗ്രൂപ്പാണ്. അതിൽ പ്രീക്ലാമ്പ്സിയ, ക്രോണിക് ഹൈപ്പർടെൻഷനിൽ സൂപ്പർഇമ്പോസ്ഡ് പ്രീക്ലാംപ്സിയ, ഗർഭകാല ഹൈപ്പർടെൻഷൻ, ക്രോണിക് ഹൈപ്പർടെൻഷൻ എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.[3]
2013-ൽ ഏകദേശം 20.7 ദശലക്ഷം സ്ത്രീകളിൽ മാതൃ രക്തസമ്മർദ്ദ വൈകല്യങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടുണ്ട്.[1] ആഗോളതലത്തിൽ ഏകദേശം 10% ഗർഭധാരണങ്ങളും ഹൈപ്പർടെൻസിവ് രോഗങ്ങളാൽ സങ്കീർണ്ണമാണ്.[4] യുണൈറ്റഡ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ്സിൽ, ഗർഭാവസ്ഥയുടെ രക്താതിമർദ്ദം 8% മുതൽ 13% വരെ ഗർഭധാരണത്തെ ബാധിക്കുന്നു.[3] വികസ്വര രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ നിരക്കുകൾ വർദ്ധിച്ചു.[3] 1990-ലെ 37,000 മരണങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് 2013-ൽ 29,000 മരണങ്ങൾക്ക് കാരണമായി.[5]പ്രസവാനന്തര രക്തസ്രാവം (13%), പ്രസവാനന്തര അണുബാധകൾ (2%) എന്നിവയ്‌ക്കൊപ്പം ഗർഭാവസ്ഥയിൽ (16%) മരണത്തിന്റെ മൂന്ന് പ്രധാന കാരണങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണിത്.[6]
