ആന്ധ്രാപ്രദേശിലെ ഒരു നഗരമാണ് കർനൂൽ അഥവാ കർണൂൽ. മുമ്പ് ഇത് ആന്ധ്രാ സംസ്ഥാനത്തിൻ്റെ തലസ്ഥാനമായിരുന്നു (1953-1956). [5] [6] [7] ഈ നഗരം "രായലസീമയുടെ കവാടം" എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്. മൺസൂൺ മഴയിൽ മേൽമണ്ണ് ഒലിച്ചുപോയതിനുശേഷം കർനൂലിൻ്റെ തരിശായ ഭൂമിയിൽ വജ്രങ്ങൾ കണ്ടെത്താമെന്നതിനാൽ വജ്രവേട്ടയ്ക്കും കർനൂൽ പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. കർനൂൽ ജില്ലയുടെ ആസ്ഥാനം കൂടിയാണ് ഈ നഗരം. 2011ലെ സെൻസസ് പ്രകാരം ഇവിടത്തെ ജനസംഖ്യ 484,327 ആണ്. ജനസംഖ്യാടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ കർനൂൽ സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ അഞ്ചാമത്തെ വലിയ നഗരമാണ്.[8] തുംഗഭദ്ര നദിയുടെ തീരത്താണ് ഈ നഗരം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് വർഷങ്ങളായി ഈ പ്രദേശത്ത് ജനവാസമുണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും, 16-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ കോണ്ട റെഡ്ഡി കോട്ടയുടെ നിർമ്മാണത്തോടെയാണ് ആധുനിക കർനൂൽ സ്ഥാപിതമാകുന്നത്.
