ഓസ്ട്രേലിയയിലെ ക്വീൻസ്‍ലാന്റിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്ന 8,940 ചതുരശ്രകിലോമീറ്റർ വരുന്ന മഴക്കാടുകൾ യുനെസ്കോ ലോകപൈതൃക സ്ഥാനങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടികയിൽ പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.^[1] ഗ്രേറ്റ് ഡിവൈഡിങ്ങ് റേഞ്ചിന്റെ വടക്ക് കിഴക്കേ ക്വീൻസ്‍ലാന്റ് പ്രദേശമാണിത്. ഒരു പ്രകൃതി പൈതൃകസ്ഥാനമാകാനുള്ള നാല് മാനദണ്ഡങ്ങളും ഈ സ്ഥലം പാലിക്കുന്നു. 1998 ലാണ് ഈ പ്രദേശം ലോകപൈതൃക സ്ഥാനമായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടത്^[2]. 2007 ലാണ് ഈ പ്രദേശം ഓസ്ട്രേലിയയുടെ ദേശീയ പൈതൃക പട്ടികയിൽ ഇടം നേടിയത്. ^[3]

ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും ഇടതൂർന്നു വളരുന്ന പൂവിടുന്ന സസ്യങ്ങളുടെ കുടുംബങ്ങൾ ഈ കാടുകളിൽ കാണാം^[4]. മഡഗാസ്കറിലും ന്യൂ കാലെഡോണിയയിലും മാത്രമാണ് ഇവിടത്തേതിനു സമാനമായ തോതിൽ പ്രാദേശിക സസ്യജാലം കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്^[2].
