ഒരു ജാപ്പനീസ് കവിയും ബുദ്ധസന്യാസിയുമായിരുന്നു കൊബയാഷി ഇസ്സ ((Kobayashi Issa) (小林 一茶?, ജൂൺ 15, 1763 – ജനുവരി 5, 1828),[1].ഹൈക്കു രചയിതാക്കളിൽ ബാഷോയ്ക്കും ഷികിയ്ക്കും ബുസോണിനും തുല്യമായ സ്ഥാനമാണ് ഇസ്സയ്ക്കുമുള്ളത്. അനേകം ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങൾ ഇസ്സയെ പരാമർശിച്ച് എഴുതപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളത് ഇസ്സയുടെ ജനപ്രീതി കാണിയ്ക്കുന്നു.[2]

ദീർഘമായ തന്റെ സാഹിത്യസപര്യക്കിടയിൽ ഇസ്സ ഇരുപതിനായിരത്തോളം ഹൈക്കു രചിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.ഭൂരിഭാഗം ഹൈക്കുവും ചെറുപ്രാണികളെയും ജന്തുജീവികളെയും പരാമർശിച്ച് എഴുതപ്പെട്ടവയാണ്. ലാളിത്യമാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കൃതികളൂടെ മറ്റൊരു സവിശേഷത.
