കെല്ലി റൂതർഫോർഡ് ഡീൻ കെന്റക്കിയിലെ എലിസബത്ത് ടൗണിൽ 1968 നവംബർ 6 ന് ആൻ എഡ്വേർഡ്സിന്റെ മകളായി ജനിച്ചു.[2] അവർക്ക് ആന്റണി എന്നപേരിൽ ഒരു സഹോദരനുണ്ട്.[3] കാലിഫോർണിയയിലെ ന്യൂപോർട് ബീച്ചിലെ കൊറോണ ഡെൽ മാർ ഹൈസ്കൂളിലായിരുന്നു അവർ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം ചെയ്തത്. പിന്നീട് ന്യൂ യോർക്ക് നഗരത്തിലെ എച്ച്.ബി. സ്റ്റുഡിയോയിലും കാലിഫോർണിയയിലെ ബെവർലി ഹിൽസ് പ്ലേഹൌസിലും തുടർപഠിനം നടത്തി.[4]
