എട്ട് കാർബൺ പൂരിത ഫാറ്റി ആസിഡിനുള്ള പൊതുവായ പേരാണ് കാപ്രിലിക് ആസിഡ്. വ്യവസ്ഥാനുസൃതമായ നാമം ഒക്ടാനോയിക് ആസിഡ് ആണ്. ഇതിന്റെ സംയുക്തങ്ങൾ വിവിധ സസ്തനികളുടെ പാലിൽ സ്വാഭാവികമായി കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. വെളിച്ചെണ്ണ, പാം കേർണൽ എണ്ണ എന്നിവയിൽ ഒരു ചെറിയ ഘടകവും കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. [6] ഇത് വെള്ളത്തിൽ അല്പം ലയിക്കുന്ന ഒരു എണ്ണമയമുള്ള ദ്രാവകമാണ്. ചെറുതായി അസുഖകരമായ റാൻസിഡ്-പോലുള്ള ഗന്ധം, രുചി എന്നിവ ഇതിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. [7]
