1995 - ൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വലത് കണ്ണിന് കാര്യമായി പരിക്കേറ്റിരുന്നു. തുടർന്ന് കാഴ്ച്ച സംബന്ധമായ പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അലട്ടി തുടങ്ങി. ഒരു ഫുട്ബോളർ എന്ന നിലയിൽ ഡേവിഡ്‌സിന് ഇതൊരു വലിയ പ്രശ്നമായിരുന്നു. കാര്യങ്ങൾ കൂടുതൽ കുഴപ്പമായത് കൊണ്ട് അദ്ദേഹം വിരമിക്കലിന്റെ വക്കിലെത്തി.

കാരണം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ഗ്ലോക്കോമ ബാധിച്ചിരുന്നു. അതായത് തലച്ചോറിൽ നിന്നും നദികളിലേക്കുള്ള തകരാറും അതുമൂലം കണ്ണിന് കാഴ്ച്ച നഷ്ട്ടപ്പെടുന്ന അവസ്ഥ.
