സിംഗപ്പൂരിൽ രജിസ്റ്റർ ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു സൂപ്പർ ഇക്കോ 2700-ക്ലാസ് ചരക്കു കപ്പൽ ആണ് എക്സ്-പ്രസ് പേൾ . ഫെബ്രുവരി രണ്ടായിരത്തി ഇരുപത്തിയൊന്നിൽ സേവനം ആരംഭിച്ച ഈ കപ്പൽ മെയ് ഇരുപത് രണ്ടായിരത്തി ഇരുപത്തിയൊന്നിൽ ശ്രീലങ്കയിലെ കൊളംബോയിൽ വെച്ച് തീ പിടിച്ചു. പന്ത്രണ്ടു ദിവസം നിന്ന് കത്തിയ ഈ കപ്പലിനെ പിന്നീട് ശ്രീലങ്കൻ അഗ്നിശമനയുടെ നേതൃത്തത്തിൽ പുറം കടലിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോയി .[1]
തീപിടുത്തം[തിരുത്തുക]
ശ്രീലങ്കയുടെ ചരിത്രത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ കടലിൽ നടന്ന പാരിസ്ഥിതിക ദുരന്തം ആയി ആണ് ഇതിനെ കാണുന്നത് . 1486 കണ്ടൈനറുകളുമായി യാത്ര തിരിച്ച ഈ കപ്പലിൽ മുഖ്യമായും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത് രാസവസ്തുക്കൾ ആയിരുന്നു ഇതിന്റെ ചോർച്ച മൂലം ഉണ്ടായ തീപിടിച്ചാണ് കപ്പൽ കത്തി നശിച്ചത്. [2][3]
പാരിസ്ഥിക ആഘാതം[തിരുത്തുക]
വൻ പാരിസ്ഥിക ആഘാതം ആണ് എക്സ്-പ്രസ് പേൾ കത്തിയത് വഴി സംഭവിച്ചത് , 5 ടൺ നൈട്രിക് ആസിഡ് , ഇരുപത്തിആറായിരം കിലോ വീതം ഭാരമുള്ള മൂന്ന് കണ്ടയിനർ പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് പെല്ലറ്റുകൾ എന്നിവയാണ് കടലിൽ വീണത് , ഇതിന്റെ പ്രത്യാഘതമായി നേരിയ തോതിൽ ആണെകിലും ശ്രീലങ്കയിൽ നേർത്ത ആസിഡ് മഴ പെയ്യുകയുണ്ടായി .
രണ്ടായിരത്തി ഇരുപത്തിയൊന്ന് ജൂൺ പതിനഞ്ചിലെ കണക്കനുസരിച്ചു നാൽപ്പതോളം കടലാമക്കൾ ചത്തു തീരത്തടിഞ്ഞു[4][5] , ഇതിനു പുറമെ നിരവധി ഇനം മത്സ്യങ്ങളും , തിമിംഗലവും ആറോളം ഡോൾഫിനുകളും തീ പൊള്ളൽ ഏറ്റ പാടോടുകൂടിയാണ് കരക്ക് അടിഞ്ഞത് . പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് പെല്ലറ്റ് മൂലം കടലിലെ ആവാസ വ്യവസ്ഥക്ക് സംഭവിച്ചേക്കാവുന്ന മറ്റു പാരിസ്ഥിതിക പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ ഇത് വരെ വിലയിരുത്തിയിട്ടില്ല.[6][7][8]
